EVIL

All the water in the world, However hard it tried, Could never sink a ship Unless it got inside. All the evil in the World, The blackest kind of sin, Could never hurt you one least bit, Unless you let it. Arrange for more than you can do, Then do it. Bite off more than you can chew, Then chew it. Hitch your wagon to a start, Keep your seat and there you are! One of the best ways of avoiding sin is to stay busy doing wholesome things.

Demolition

One thing to remember, another to do, Always work with the Construction Gang, And not with the Wrecking Crew.

Service

Nobody is called to do nothing. We shall 'do' so much in years to come, But what have we done today?

Take A Walk

When you're criticizing others and are finding here and there A fault or two to speak of, or a weakness you can tear; When you're blaming someone's meanness, or accusing one of pelf-- It's time you went out to take a walk AROUND YOURSELF....

Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower. Albert Camus

a tisket a tasket, a really empty basket

I've had this basket for a week. It is still empty. I can't believe I have an empty basket. I KNOW. I will put humidity in it. I have LOTS of that. It's free. It's everywhere in the house and outside. There's LOTS in the van. If you have any better ideas, feel free to say so. There's probably room for humidity and other things.

A Song For My Friends

I wish I knew the tune to this....maybe some day I will hear it!! Summer Skies Are Glowing -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Summer skies are glowing Over land and sea; Happy light is flowing, Bountiful and free. Every thing rejoices In the mellow rays; All earth's thousand voices Swell the psalm of praise. God's free mercy streameth Over all the world, And His banner gleameth, Everywhere unfurled. Broad and deep and glorious As the heaven above, Shines in might victorious His eternal love. Lord, upon our blindness Thy pure radiance pour; For Thy loving-kindness Makes us love Thee more; And, when clouds are drifting Dark across our sky, Then, the veil uplifting, Father, be Thou nigh. We will never doubt Thee, Though Thou veil Thy light; Life is dark without Thee; Death with Thee is bright. Light of light! shine o'er us On our pilgrim way; Go Thou still before us To the endless day.

Laundry.......you may as well smile.

I like to do laundry. I like the different things you can buy........and sniff......and spray and spritz!! I like clothes pins.  I like bleach. I like 2 in 1 soap/softener........just like shampoo! I like dryer sheets. Especially those that come in purple glittery shiny boxes. I like to gather laundry. I like to sort it. I have a jean load. A white load. A dark dress load. The MOST fun load is the random load. It will have doilies, sweaters, table cloths, curtains, dresser scarves, sheets, pillowcases, aprons, and fabric pieces. That is a load I *love* to hang on the rack or out back on the line. I love that load. I like to hang things on the line. I like to use the racks inside the washroom. I have been very blessed with a very nice washroom. It is missing a door to the back yard.....I have to go out the front door to get to the back yard....I guess I can't have a washroom AND a door to the back yard from the washroom.  I have a nice folding table, lots of room for baskets. I

Something I didn't have........

Goodly Heritage 1) I may not have riches as some others may But I have a mother who knows how to pray And maybe there's some things I've missed in my youth But I have a father who stands for the truth Chorus: I have a goodly heritage I'm blessed with things you can't see I have a goodly heritage And that is worth far more to me 2) And if in the future, my parents pass on, To dwell in that City we've come to call Home They may not leave me the goods of this world But I have accepted their God and His Word Chorus I have a goodly heritage I'm blessed with things you can't see I have a goodly heritage And that is worth far more to me ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` I have everything, all that I need All that I need, treasures unseen, And that is worth far more to me I did NOT have a goodly heritage.  I did have parents that loved me, but they did not know the Lord.  I did not grow up with a mom that prayed. My dad did not st

New Window Skirts

So I had a whole pile of dresses I would never wear again, but I still liked the fabric.  I liked the fabric at one time well enough to sew it into a dress. I cut the skirts off of the bodice and went to thinking what I could do with the 'skirt'. One purple piece turned into a pillowcase for a birthday girl. The orange you see in the picture turned into two pillowcases for Kimberly.  She likes orange. The other Autumn/Fall 'skirt' pieces turned into dining room curtains. I am thinking it is the first time there have been curtains in the dining room....with pockets. (the one with pockets) Most of the time, the curtains will be open.  We like to look out on the back yard. It's pretty all year long. Especially the season that is coming.....

Poor Frog

I guess this frog wasn't dead after all. I took the pictures in the morning. I went back later that afternoon and it was gone. I *do* hope it was OK.

My Contribution

I am not overly concerned about my carbon footprint. I am pretty sure that landfills and what goes in them is NOT our biggest problem.  I do try to do my part if I can...and not be crazy about it. If I just buy a few things, I never have them put it in a bag. It is silly to pick out 3 apples and put them in a produce bag, then the *store* people put it in ANOTHER bag.  I tell the checker, I don't need a bag....I'll save a plastic tree. Most of them don't even come close to getting it. And then Once In A Blue Moon I will remember to bring my neat little bag inside the store for my purchase. This one was from Wawa in New Jersey.  It's their version of Buc-ees. (whatever) So, I give the bag to the checker, she fumbles around with it, it won't snag the little hook that's on the circle thing they put groceries on....she says, "Aw, that's nice, you bring a bag from Wal-Mart to put your KROGER groceries in." I said, it isn't a Wal-Mart bag.  Then she

One Sunday Morning

I got up one Sunday morning to this. The light was coming in through the dining room windows.... in a way I had never seen it before. It was kind of creepy. Is your house night friendly? Morning friendly? I like our house in the morning, but not at night. I am not a night-owl. That's probably why. Are *YOU* a night owl?
Last year at this time, we were fixing to go to Colorado. It's one of the funnest places I have ever been and one of the best times I have  ever had. Getting there was part of the fun. Being there was more fun. Table for 9 at Casa Bonita!! They weren't smiling here because we couldn't find our kids..... These are for spoons.........I bought one with a little chickadee on it. I use it every time I drink coffee. Makes me think of tea. (Celestial Tea Factory) Doesn't even look real..... The weather was beautifully sunny and warmish cool the whole time....except it started to snow on us one evening....the last evening..... which meant the last day before we all had to go home....was snowy and cold and freezy. Just perfect for the kids to play in the snow and slide around. The adults had a good last day together, too. We watched Twilight Zone, made real cinnamon rolls, ate BBQ, drove on scary roads, went to a candy factory, took short walks, dran

back yard

Sun in the back yard Grows lazy, Dozing on the porch steps All morning, Getting up and nosing About corners, Gazing into an empty Flowerpot, Later easing over the grass For a nap, Unless Someone hangs out the wash-- Which changes Everything to a rush and a clap Of wet Cloth, and fresh wind And sun Wide awake in the white sheets. all the small poems and fourteen more Valerie Worth

Set the Table

The earliest settlers in America took their meals at a bord or borde-literally a wooden plank or two, set on a trestle.  This arrangement made sense because it could be dismantled after dining to make room for other activities-an important consideration in modest dwellings.  to 'set the table' for dinner meant, literally, to set trestle and board in front of those who intended to dine.  We also reference that early arrangement whenever  we speak of 'room and board'.  taken from "The Kitchen Linens Book" by EllynAnne Geisel

Lydia, Seller of Purple

I did a lesson on Lydia this Sunday for Sunday School. I enjoyed looking things up and learning more about Lydia. Acts 16:14-15  And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped god, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. and when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there.  And she constrained us. The name Lydia means *bending* Thyatira was known for their purple dye. She worshipped God..... she wasn't yet a believer. attended: pay attention besought:  to beg for urgently, a request judged:  form opinion, to determine abide:  stay, dwell, tarry constrained:  to secure by Purple IS a royal color and now I know why. The dye came from a certain kind of *fish* and it was hard to get......... All the other color dyes were easy to get. greens, browns, reds Purple

The doctor I took the kids to is still in town. Kind of. We don't go to the doctor very often, but when we do, I kind of like to feel that all is well with the doctor. He was answering his own phone. NOBODY was in the waiting room. No secretaries. No nurses. His little rooms were in disrepair. I didn't get a chance to talk to him and see what was going on.... because HE was answering the phone.... Even though we were his only patient, He didn't have time to talk. I don't think we're going back there. It's kind of sad. He used to offer me tennis balls for my kids. We called him : openmouthsayahhhhhh Well, I'm almost out of kids anyway.

My Own Version....

I read a little poem/story a long time ago.  I don't know where it is, so I will write my own version. One of these days you might wish your kids would stop slamming the screen door.  And they will. One of these days you might wish your kids would stop taking drinks out of the jug of milk.  And they will. One of these days you might wish your kids would stop drawing outlandish things on the driveway with sidewalk chalk.  And they will. They eat your special pudding. They chew your gum. They lose your pencil sharpeners. They leave candy wrappers in the frontroom. They get grass in the newly vacuumed car. They won't kill their own bugs. They want pets and won't feed them. They don't like the clothes you pick out for them. They drink more pop than water. They don't know how to sweep and they cannot be taught. They break frames and the glass in hallway pictures. They have a stomach ache when it's time to do dishes. Then they're fine when they're done. T

http://www.mrsmeyers.com/ I have two of their products....both liquid hand soap. One is basil for the kitchen and the other is geranium for the bathroom. They are both delightful. The lemon/verbena room spritz is next on my list. Look at Wal-mart or Lowe's for Mrs. Meyers....you won't be sorry!

The Prettiest Color

I'm pretty sure this is the prettiest color in the world.  It is the color of muffin mix *with* the blueberry juice mixed in. The directions always tell you to pour the liquid off of the berries. I always keep the liquid. It makes the muffins much nicer. Follow the directions on your weed-eater and toaster oven..... but KEEP the blueberry water from now on. !!

Bunny and the Violin

Once upon a time there was a dog called Bunny. She lived in a house with Kimberly. Poor Bunny.  Kimberly got a violin.  It is driving Bunny crazy. A sweet little friend that knows how to actually play, is trying to help Kimberly learn. Bunny is not having fun. But Kimberly and G. are. So, go to bed Bunny. The end.

Just for today

Lord Jesus, give me a deeper repentance, a horror of sin, a dread of its approach. Help me chastely to flee it and jealously to resolve that my heart shall be Thine alone. Lord, help me, for I am often lukewarm and chill; unbelief mars my confidence, sin makes me forget Thee. Let the weeds that grow in my soul be cut at their roots; grant me to know that I truly live only when I live to Thee, that all else is trifling. Thy presence alone can make me holy, devout, strong and happy. Abide in me, gracious God. Lord Jesus, I sin. Grant that I may never cease grieving because of it, never be content with myself, never think I can reach a point of perfection. Kill my envy, command my tongue, trample down self. Give me grace to be holy, kind, gentle, pure, peaceable, to live for Thee and not for self, to copy Thy words, acts, spirit, to be transformed into Thy likeness, to be consecrated wholly to Thee, to live entirely to Thy glory.

sKirTs

The skirt on the left, I have had for a long time. I wear it ALL the time.  That's why it's faded. I couldn't believe my eyes when there was one at a thrift store for $2!  I bought it and will probably fade it out also.  I love the colors...and LOTS of tops go with this skirt. (s) It may look like I spend LOTS of $$$ on skirts. I don't. Most of the skirts I own cost less than $1....some may have cost me all of fifty cents. I do have a lot of skirts, but that's what I wear.  All the time.  I might go back to jumpers, but right now I am wearing skirts.  It's fun to have a choice, it's also fun to sew and to find them! I'm waiting for the Holidays so I can wear this skirt. Hopefully I can find a red top to go with it. It is a whimisical skirt....lots of snowy bunnys and snowflakes.  I can't wait to wear this!! These skirts used to be dresses....until today. I was going through my closet looking for something and I ran across these.  I put the
