Spurgeon----- September 13, 1871

True prayers are like those carrier pigeons that find their way so well: they cannot fail to go to heaven, for it is from heaven that they came.  They are only going home. If we are wholly living unto God, our prayers will run side by side with His purposes, and none of them will fall to the ground.   "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thing heart." Psalm 37:4 "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" James 5:16 "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." John 15:7

Thursday.

For today .....I will finish my sunflower aprons and dust our bedroom....supper is ready, just waiting for a box of stuffing Lydia will buy when she shops with Heather and the girls today. Outside my window .....it is very still. Humid. Still kind of dark.  I am thinking .....about the services we had last night at church and how blessed we all are to have one another.  I don't know what I would do without a church family. In the kitchen .....there are grease spatters on the stove top from the frying of the chicken on Tuesday night, our Kuerig coffee machine is on the blink, a crock pot needs washed......and I like the new pink dish soap Lydia picked out. I am wearing .....my housecoat.  I will get dressed at 7.  This housecoat was given to me by my midwife after our 2nd child (son) was born 27? years ago.  It's blue with white flowers....made from a knit fabric....not cotton, but I've always loved it. I am going ....nowhere today as far as I know.  Which is fin

Never Satisfied

I've changed my Bible reading up a little and this morning I read part of an article on prayer by Spurgeon, then I read Proverbs 30. Proverbs 30 has a few short lists..... three things that are never satisfied yea four things three things which are too wonderful for me three things the earth is disquieted four which it cannot bear four things which are little but exceeding wise three things that go well four are comely in going I pondered on the *never satisfied* for a bit..... 1. the grave 2. the barren womb 3. earth that is not filled with water 4. the fire that saith not, It is enough These four things never say it is enough. They are never satisfied. Then I thought of myself. I don't make hot tea, then put ice in it, then put sugar in it, then put a lemon in it..... so I'm not guilty there.... but  plenty of other places I am. The Inspirations sing a song about moving into a *brand* new home, and before you kno

The Library

I love to look at books about houses.  Especially *bungalows*.  My sister used to live in one,  I didn't know it was a bungalow, but I remember liking it.  I like all the wood and built in features in these houses. I also like to make bags and purses.  I scan through books like this and hope to get an idea, something I can add to what I already do, or something totally new. See how neat these houses are?  Have you ever lived in one, or do you live in one now?  I call our house a Frank Lloyd Wright house.  It's rather North and South and well, boring. I like little fun fact books, too.  I will soon find out what phloem bundles are.....and where our philtrum is located. I do read some fiction.  I say I don't, but I forgot about Miss Read books...........just check one out and see why I like them!  I have many of them and I added these two to my collection yesterday! I really should go to the library more often.  I don't know why I don't.  D

What does it take to wipe a smile off of your face?  A knot in your yarn?  A small blister?  Mold on strawberries you just bought?  Sloshed coffee?  A ruined carrot cake with expensive ingredients?  Rain?  What if somebunny barks at you?  What if you trip going up the stairs? I remember going to the public pool in Medicine Lodge, Kansas.  They made everybunny get out of the pool for 15 minutes for breaks. (the Great Bend pool did NOT)  EVERY time it upset me.  Like I didn't know it was going to happen and like 15 minutes rest time was really 15 hours.  Yes, it would wipe the smile off of my face. As a little kid, I couldn't look ahead  and be prepared and mature about things like that. But now I can be.  I can look ahead, prepare, have a plan, make up my mind, and decide *beforehand* what I'm going to do and how I'm going to act when something less than lovely happens to me. My reaction to things is very important. People are watching. The Lord is right beside

some questions answered

Happy Mama    asked me to answer these questions. Eleven questions to my chosen nominees: 1) What was the most significant event that happened in your life to lead you where you are today? My salvation.  I'm in Texas, in Freeport, in this house, a pastor's wife, a mom of 6, Aunt to many, Grandmother to 8.....because I got saved and this is where God wants me. 2) What is your favorite book of the Bible and why?. Proverbs.  I like the plain and simple instruction it gives. No excuses to not apply it. 3) What is it about your husband that first caught your attention?  And how has he kept it through the years? ??????......he was preaching in a rest home and the Lord laid it on my heart to start being nice to him.  You see, we didn't hit it off right away.  There was no love at first sight. Probably what caught my attention was......if he said something, he wasn't kidding. He has kept my love and attention because he loves the Lord. 4) What is your favorite

My Birthday Party

This is the way my day started.  Heather (Dilly) made me a pan of yummy cinnamon rolls. My husband got me a driveway chair.  That's what I will call it since we don't have a patio or a porch.  He also got me wind chimes.  Complete with frog. Theresa, my sil had a party for me at 12:00 noon.  Everything was very nice....and purple! We all got a little cactus plant to take home.  So far, mine have lived. Did we have fun at the party? We all sure did............. A new friend was there.  She's our Raggedy Ann doll-maker. Yes, I'm 53.  Wanna know something pitiful?  I was 53 all last year, too.  I never really got to be 52. I sure wish I wouldn't have been wrong about that all year.

Just A Thought

The wisest man I have ever known once said to me, "Nine out of every ten people improve on acquaintance"; and I have found his words true.  Frank Swinnerton

A project

I can buy t-shirts at a thrift store near me........for a dime each.  I choose the largest ones I can, and fun colors.  I cut the bottoms off, then cut them into strips.  The strips are actually loops, I connect the loops together kind of like you would two rubber bands.........then roll them into balls. Some t-shirts shed and crumble all over me.......I am in t-shirt dust........some cut up without any fuss.  I love to see my *pan* filled with rolled up balls, ready to crochet. I am going to crochet the biggest rug in the world made out of t-shirts.  So far, this one is worth 80cents....plus my time.  Sheba wishes I would hurry and put it on the floor for her.  I just hope I can find a washing machine large enough to wash it in.  What are you working on?  Do you always finish what you start?  Do you have more than one project going at a time?

Encouragement For Christians

BEYOND THE SUNSET Beyond the sunset, O blissful morning When with our Saviour heaven's begun Earth's toiling ended, O glorious dawning Beyond the sunset when day is done. Beyond the sunset, no clouds will gather No storms will threaten, no fears annoy O day of gladness, O day unending Beyond the sunset eternal joy. Beyond the sunset, a hand will guide me To God the Father whom I adore His glorious presence, His words of welcome Will be my portion on that fair shore. Beyond the sunset, O glad reunion With our dear loved ones who've gone before In that fair homeland we'll know no parting Beyond the sunset forever more... AFTER After the darkness and storm cometh a radiant light; After the winds and the rain Cometh the sunshine bright; After the gloaming and night Cometh the glorious dawn; After the toiling and cares Cometh the victor's song. After the turmoil and strife Cometh a wonderful peace

Promises !

My dad had LOTS of sayings.  He had something to say for every occasion.......or a little song for whatever was going on.  He used to say: "Promises! Promises!"  In other words, your words are useless.  You make promises but never carry through. Well, I found the Lord to stay true to His promises, every one of them.   I bought this little box of verses around the time I was saved.  Bible verses were SO foreign to me.  My knowledge of the Bible could fit in half a walnut shell.  I'm so glad I still have the Bible I used when I first got saved.......I like to look at the pages and remember back when I was learning new things.  Good things.  True things.   I happen to remember the first verse I memorized.   Psalm 58:11 ..........  and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. What do you remember from when you were newly saved?  What sticks in your mind?  What makes you rejoice and smile every time you think of i

What I Did Today

I say cinder blocks are a gardener's best friend!  Cinder blocks don't rot, they don't break easily, they don't lose their shape, they don't ever go out of style. I will use the holes as planters and will plan on watering often.  I added a few other types of bricks that I have in random spots just waiting for a home. Sun-dial and Bird-bath. I had a really fun time today digging, fixing up, moving and planning.   This little spot here that you see is what's left of a square foot cinder block garden. (bottom pic)  My two boys bought me bricks for my birthdays.....and this is where they were first placed.  Today I was alone in my gardening efforts, but I used to have two boys that would be out back with me moving the heavy things and doing shovel stuff!  I'm on my own now, but I have the presents they gave me many years ago, and the memories. I'm going to let the grass grow over this spot, but it will always be a special *spot* to me.  One of

Jonathan Sperry

Good Movie! Well look at me.  Well, thanks to my husband, I figured out how to name a link instead of just HAVING a link. The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry (just click on the Good Movie) My husband and I just watched this movie........I stayed awake through the whole thing.....and that's saying something because I was tired when I turned it on and usually get more and more and more drowsy as a movie goes on.  We have Netflix........it is easy thatta way.  If not, try to find a way to see it.  Worth your time!
