The Ocean

"The waves broke with a soft swish on the rocks below them, and the tang of the sea was in the strong, fresh air." Anne Actually, it wasn't like that at all. The air was strong, but it wasn't fresh. Mosquitos were biting......and strangely enough, there was NO wind. It was foggy but we could still see surfers trying to catch a wave. The water was covering the little bit of beach left from the last hurricane. The old brick building that got blown away has been replaced with new restrooms. A few people were playing volley ball. It would have been a good night for it. We didn't walk all the way down the jetty. It kind of looked like a scary dream, so I turned around and everybody followed me. There was no apparent sunset.  It just got dark. Then we went to our lovely Super S store to find some holiday cookies. Went home empty handed. I'll go to Kroger today. They'll have what we're looking for.

Kim's Day

Kim got a surprise this morning....I planned a party at the beach for her.  It turned out great and she was surprised. Of course we went to Buc-ees first. Presents from a friend. Just having fun in the sun!! Kimberly's idea of sunscreen. It probably wasn't the 'best' day to be at the beach. School starts Monday and everybody was acting like it  was 'their' birthday....at the beach today. I was glad it didn't rain, I am thankful for our van that keeps making it over the bridge, I am thankful for my kids, and am glad for the people persons that came to the 'party' and made it fun.  Don't anybody tell Jehu OR Bunny why they got plunked in their kennels all afternoon. Happy Birthday to YOu KIM

Learned Something New

We went to the beach today. We usually don't go this early in the season, but time has afforded us to go, so we do. Everybody knows the colder it is, the better shell seeking is. Right now the beach is covered with shells.........none that would sell in a store called The Shell Shop, but they're fun to look for anyway! I cut the top off of a liquid laundry soap bottle and that's what I carry to put shells in. It works better than a plastic bag, believe me. Two older women passed me today and they had little cloth bags they were putting their found treasure in. They passed back by us again and I asked them what they were looking for. I told them I like to find just the regular shells with holes in them.......so you can hang them from things. They said they looked for GLASS! (I've been avoiding the glass!!!) They said it gets tumbled and polished just like a rock, then it's not sharp and jagged on the sides anymore. They showed me some of theirs. It IS pre...

In Memory of a Memory

Looking South to the ocean.........this all used to be sand, sand plants, and a parking lot. Now it is a small salty lake with a crumbled shore...... See the little building to the left.....kind of under the big building? It is (was) the cinder block bathrooms. They were not very nice, but they were bathrooms. Closer shot of the tilting bathrooms. Closer shot of the parking lot that no longer exists. After taking a drive through Surfside, I was even more thankful than I had been before...........to see the destruction so close to home reminded me again how the Lord put a hedge around our city. We are about 5 miles from this place as the bird flies.........and I'm thinking hurricanes take routes that birds do, they don't stay on the highways. This building you see is the place we would 'go to the beach'. We would park in this lot and walk to the water, or park on the beach, with the building behind us. Probably not long from now, the whole place will be torn do...

Ocean Days are Here Again!!!

this gull was waiting for us to drop a cookie or something Kim likes orange. Could you tell? I make the girls keep their flip-flops on because of broken glass.

to the beach?

Lydia pulled my old green floppy hat out of the back of the van, just like it was hers. I brought her red one, but she didn't even see it. I guess she liked mine, better. I can see how. It is a NEAT floppy hat.

to the big water

Have you ever noticed that different places of the country refer to the big water, differently? In New Jersey, you go to the shore. Down here, we go to the beach. In Oregon, you go to the coast. I have proof of all of this if anybody wants it.

a blue house.

Galveston

I'm fixing to go to Galveston. We will drive on the senic Blue Water Highway. I will stop at Buc-ees and get a brownie. One with nuts and chocolate chips. It's raining. But it will stop. And it will probably be beautiful out! We're going to Wal-mart, too. Just for the fun of it. We will see what Caleb and Heather's baby is........boy or girl.........girl or boy. ? I'll be back. After Heather and I have some fun. bye.

The Gulf and Lydia

waiting for summer..........................

Lydia's Saturday (by Lydia)

Me and my Dad went to the Wild Life Refuge in Brazoria, and we also went to Bryan Beach!! *SMILES* The Refuge is home to coyotes, hogs, (Yukk!!) I think bob cats, and hares/rabbits. We haven't seen and of them except hogs. I much would've rether seen a coyote or something... The ocean was SOOOOOO pretty! It was actully pretty calm! I got a few good pictures of the waves just before they rolled over..... Like this picture! This is a picture of a Reddish Egret, and two Cattle Egrets. One of the Cattle Egrets was immature. But they let me and my dad get pretty close to them. I got a picture of the Reddish Egret flying away, but it was blurry. This is a picture of a Brown Pelican. We saw the bird when it was fishing. It was realllllyyyy neat!!!! I got a few pictures of it diving in the water, but most of them where blurry.. That bird has a large wing spand! Even though it's not my favorite bird, ( The Painted Bunting is mine) it deffintly is very amazing. It was flying aroun...

Lydia and the Ocean

Lydia and floaties........... Lydia and the gulls.............(I don't want to glamorize our beaches........this is dried ?whatever? the sea belched up......it looked like a forest fire............) Lydia floating in six inches of water..............

A few of my favorite things.........

I love these birds. I know it is boring to like the color gray, but I do. Gray makes me think of lawn furniture and porch swings.........and my hair?
