Old Quilt

My Great-Grandmother made me this quilt. That would make it around 50 years old. I remember looking at the soft little bunnies. I also remember not liking the *patchwork* side of it. It was rough and the colors were not pretty. I'm pretty sure it was made out of  men's suit pants and jackets. I have been to a few quilt fairs in Houston. So you KNOW they were fantastic affairs! Hundreds and hundreds of quilts on display. They are works of art. The *quilters* win trophies, medals, honors. I know they put a lot of work into them. AND, lots of money.   The fabric is purchased brand new...... and if you have priced fabric for quilts, you know the  finished product is pricey. When I think of quilts, I think of the way they used to be made. From scraps...... That's the way I like to make quilts. from scraps.....fabric from my own sewing room If you have a thought on quilts....and scraps.....

what do you see?

I see squares in squares. I see stars. I see pyramid triangles. I see boxes in boxes. I see little triangles around squares. That is why I like this simple pattern. You can see so many things. What do you see?

East and West

It's the largest thing I've ever made. This picture shows it going North and South..... Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to hang the silly thing in the patio sized door-way.  So far, I have an old flag-pole and two hooks. I still need to cut all the strings and iron it. I *did* offset the pieces on purpose. Some are just more offset than others.

East and West

I use the term North and South/ East and West ALOT when I sew. The bottom picture is North and South....... but when the quilt curtains are hung in their rightful place, they will be East and West. I am enjoying this quite a bit. When I'm done with this project, I hope to start another one right up. I LOVE quilty things. I tend towards scrap-quilts........nine patch, plain quilts. Nothing fancy. I think scrap quilts are the best because there are memories all sewn in. They tell a story. Random people know parts of the story because they just might have a dress, skirt, apron, or jumper............. and they can see *their* scrap in the quilt. I also tend to like scrappy quilts because it is a waste to throw pieces of fabric away. If it can't be made into a yo-yo, or a Mum-bunny, or a quilt piece, then maybe it can be torn and tied, to be rolled into a ball, for a rag-rug.

Autumnal Decoration

I'm finally doing it! choosing choosing choosing cutting cutting cutting I'm making a quilt curtain for the little room off of the dining room. The curtains that were up, are now in my husband's office. They went perfect in there. I have lots of fabric to use up, and it will be nice to look at all of it instead of it being folded up on a shelf! Many memories are coming back when I see the old fabric. Dresses, aprons, skirts, jumpers. Things I've sewn for others, things I've sewn for US. What a fun project. I have more Autumnal fabric than I thought. I guess I tend to choose it.

dining room things

This is an aerial view of my bunnies. quack. Does anybody know the name of this quilt pattern? My Great Aunt Freida made me one with blue fabric when I was very young. It fell apart because I used it so much. She made one for my cousin, too. My mom had her make another one for me, but she made it square instead of rounded. Jolly in black and white.

and more.............

This was a little wild.........I wouldn't want a bedroom that went with it....... Lots of work went into this one......I don't pretend to understand how they do this. Some of the makers of these fine quilts were standing by themwith white gloves on! This one is just dreamy. I love the colors.
