25/30

When we moved here 25 years ago, I said I would plant flowers. I did. And they grew. So did other things. The trees. Weeds. Kittens. Puppies. And our kids. Caleb turned five years old the day we moved. It was his birthday. Sara was 7. Olivia was 3. Daniel was 6 weeks old. Happy birthday Caleb. Caleb could read before he was in Kindergarten. He has a scar on his forehead and on his arm from bike wrecks. He likes to do transmission work on cars and trucks. He teaches the boy Sunday School class upstairs. I teach the girl Sunday School class downstairs. Sometimes on the way back, we ask each other if we have a lesson prepared.  Knowing that we do. He's our Song Leader. He preaches every Wednesday night. He has a lovely wife from Alaska, and three little girls. I've always been thankful for Caleb.     Except for a few minutes the day he was born. He weighed 10 pounds. Caleb turns 30 today. Today we've...

Happy Birthday Mom and Kansas

Last year at this time, my mom was opening over 100 birthday cards.  It was an old fashion card party, and I still think about it and smile.  Like I said (that's what my mom always says) last year, my mother is the Queen of writing letters and sending cards.....so she deserved some herself.  And she surely got them!  I'm thankful the Lord saw it fit to give my mother one more year of life.  I needed her this year, and she was always there to listen and help.    My mom hasn't always been old.  She once had two little girls.  This house , which is on a corner in Great Bend, is still there.  It's where I first remember things.  Like swing-sets, kittens, bubble gum, guppies, and somebody feeding me a tomato when I was in a high-chair, and sunlight was coming in the kitchen window. ( I like sunlight).....We ate cake and watermelon on this porch, ran in the sprinklers in this yard....and could walk two houses down to visit ...

Two Days

We sing a song in my girl Sunday School class, that goes like this.....   Happy birthday to you, everybody needs two. How many have you? Happy birthday to you.   In other words, if you've had the physical birth, you then need the spiritual. Before you are saved, you only HAVE the physical birthday. The one your body enjoys. The part of us that opens presents and eats cake. But we're more than just flesh.      John 3   There was a man of the Pharisees,  named Nicodemus , a ruler of the Jews: 2  The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him,  Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God:  for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,  Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is o...

Happy Birthday

Friday night we're at Sara's apartment for the *twin* birthday party. I remember when they were born. During hurricane Rita. I flew to Mississippi, the twins were born, James came to get me and enjoy the twins, but had to drive back to Freeport to get the girls because of the hurricane. What a week. On our way HOME from Mississippi, we met the hurricane coming through the area.... and it was all calm on the coast when we got home.     Cousin Jonathan. Always has a smile ready.      Ice cream cake. Not a good idea. In Freeport. In September.    Saturday was the Spa Party for Alisa. She turned six. I can remember when she was born. It was during hurricane Ike.   WOW   Why don't we all have babies during hurricane season?      This is what went on.....      I thought these were just pretty fun. T...

Birthday 55

I turned 55 today.  My husband told me I could take up to two days to celebrate.  I chose one, and I chose Kemah.  Not such a great idea.  We should have remembered that places like that are pretty much closed down on Mondays.  Sure enough.  We did have a nice drive over there....fiddled around for a little bit, then headed to Galveston.  I always like Galveston.     Busy Bee Alvin, Texas Wish this place was in Freeport.      Just the normal fare.... except for the manatee size cinnamon roll.      Shots of the deserted shopping areas in Kemah. buggah Had I remembered the Monday thing, we would have gone on Tuesday. And I would have birthdayed myself all day long today, too.      These bushes were electric green. A picture doesn't do them justice. I don't like bushes, but these were pretty neat.        Hmmm. ...
