Apple Cake

I remember the day I first had this cake. It was many moons ago. I asked Aunt Margie for the recipe. The best recipes are written by the hand of those that *own* it.    This isn't an easy cake to make. I never know for sure when to cut up the apples.... before? then they may turn brown, or during the process.... and sort of bring everything to a halt.   This is when it's nice to have a designated stir person.      Out of the whole process, this is my favorite part. I love using the sifter, because it makes me think of the day I bought it. That's why I like to buy practical things on trips.....because when the practical things are being put to use, they remind me of things. Things other than when to cut up apples.            I used Honeycrisp. I love to eat these, too, but they were a little old, so they were perfect for a cake. I'm not eating a mush...

Brown Oatmeal Bread (easy, but not quick)

If you like a heavier bread with a little texture, then this is the recipe for you! I baked it for thirty-five minutes, and should have kept it in a little longer. Five more minutes? (I now put the dough in two regular size pans and one small, they all bake better and are not quite so dense) Yes, you do have to knead it three times, but it is worth it.

Crunch Cake

Mo-Cookie customers liked this cake, too.......... the ingredients are added differently........so it makes the outside of the cake......well...... crunchy you need sprinkles for this cake 2 cups sugar 1 cup shortening 6 eggs 2 cups flour 1 tsp vanilla mix in this order: all sugar shortening 3 eggs 1 cup flour 3 eggs 1 cup flour 300 degree oven this should fit in two bread loaf pans nicely bake until it is barely brown on the top 30 to 40 minutes don't forget to sprinkle the top before baking ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cream Cheese Pound Cake 3 sticks margarine-----------softened 8 ounces cream cheese--------softened 2 1/2 cup sugar 6 eggs 3 cups flour 1 tsp vanilla add in that order I use a hand mixer 325 oven fits in two bread loaf pans 30 to 40 minutes check for done-ness with toothpick

Peach CLOBBER

One can peaches in heavy syrup.  One can apple pie filling.  Add together and stir around in a pan that has melted butter in the bottom. One can of milk.  1 cup? sugar.  A pour of vanilla.  Stir together until sugar is dissolved. Add enough flour to make a nice easy to pour batter. Add about a teaspoon of baking powder, too.  A whisk works the best. Pour the batter on top of the peaches and apples. Make a little crumble out of melted butter, brown sugar, flour and oatmeal. Evenly spread the oatmilly mixture on top of the batter. Bake until somewhat browned and no longer runny in the middle. 45 minutes? Serve to family and guests.

Gemstones

If you know me, you know I'm not a cook.  But I'd rather be a cook than work at Home Depot. These cookies were easy..........and they were very good.  Just mix the wet ingredients.........add the dry ingredients. Roll in a ball and press the middle with your thumb......then add your choice of *filling*. I used chocolate chips and jam.  Both were good. I recommend semi-sweet mini chocolate chips........they melt nicer than milk chocolate. Bake at 350 on a lightly greased cookie sheet until they're barely brown around the edges. Then you can have tea and cookies with a queen.  They're that good............

do-able rolls

(click on picture so you can see it better) I also make my own buttermilk..... canned milk with a POUR of lemon juice !! I have been on the hunt for an easy yeast roll recipe. One that doesn't need to rise two times, be punched down three times, and kneaded three times. This makes a large pan of rolls.........enough for 6 people at one meal. I make some big and some little. I also will NOT overbake them the next time........ which will be tonight. Lydia is making Cheeseburger Soup. In honor of the Wintery Blast.

baking apple pies buying fun things

now I know........

I don't like recipe books or cupcakes. I think I will sleep better tonight now that it's out in the open. Recipe books are filled with recipes I will never use, Poppyseed Sweet and Sour Artichoke Glaze, Snap Crackle Clean Your Cabinet Spicy Gumdrop Whole Wheat Graham Cracker Cookies, Raspberry Spritz Pickled Eggs with Rosemary.........see what I mean? Recipe books taunt me. They sit on the shelf and smirk. I keep some in a drawer and I know they are laughing at me because I don't USE the recipe for pie crusts and salmon mushroom pasties. I just keep having roast and potatoes....and spaghetti. I have been using the Reiman Publication magazines.........Taste of Home for many years........that's what I like best. They're fun magazines with good pictures and for the most part, simple good recipes. Now about cupcakes. First, you make them cause your cake pan is dirty. Then you wonder, do I have enough of those little papers? Should I use what I have and spray ...

Gingerbread Tea

When it gets cold and stays cold for more than 45 minutes.........I'm going to open this box of tea.......... The recipe is in my grandma's handwriting. I don't remember her making Gingerbread men......but she must have.

Little Pillow Rolls BE CAREFUL

THE SHORTENING AND WATER MIXTURE YOU BRING TO A BOIL CAN EXPLODE WATCH IT CAREFULLY......SOMEBODY IS TESTING THE RECIPE FOR ME TO SEE 'IF' THE WATER AND SHORTENING has TO BE BOILED FOR 5 MINUTES These are SOFT and YUMMY!
