dishes

There are some things I do to make dish washing more fun (?)........I bought this little container at the SPCA thrift store.....Billy charged me too much for it, but that's another story.  If everybunny puts their dirty silverware in it, then when it's time to do dishes, all the silverware is in ONE place.  I hate to have little unsteady piles of dishes waiting to be done.....like some sort of game....and this seems to help.  We also stack plates and bowls........this also makes shorter piles and less tipping and tumbling.  The kitchen, by choice, does not have an automatic dishwasher. If you have LOTS of dirty dishes, that means you have lots of help to do them.  It kind of evens out.  If there are only two of you, then there are only two people getting dishes dirty. I also buy fun dishrags.  I do like the netting on one side, and cloth on the other.  These were from Ross.....I don't go into that store very often because it's usually a mess. ...

HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HEY! I found a picture of these ice crushers in a Retro Kitchen book...........mine is blue. (bottom picture) I never use it of course, it is just decoration. The blades are still very sharp. When people bought and made things years ago........they meant them to last. This is not so in today's world. Can you imagine a town having a *fix-it* shop like Mayberry? I read in this kitchen book that people purchased kitchen gadgets for life. It wasn't a throwaway world.

fixing up

Kim and I re-did the purple shelves in the kitchen. We have been enjoying this kitchen for almost a year now. I'm thankful every time I walk into it.

A present for my sink.............

A friend gave me this delightful fabric.........I wanted to use it for something that I would use and SEE a lot.........it worked perfect for a sink curtain!

Dancing Apron

Kimberly found this fabric yesterday at our favorite thrift store..........I made her an apron last night. It has been dubbed the 'Dancing Apron'.

My new mulch bucket........

Daniel needed to put some miles on his truck so his computer would hopefully start working so he can get it inspected........so I had him take me to get some medicine......and to stop at Lowe's on the way home. I've been wanting a mulch bucket that had a lid that wouldn't cause a struggle when it had to be removed.....like the one I had. I had to put the egg-shells ON THE FLOOR OR SOMEWHERE ELSE, JUST to get the lid off..........and whatever else you add to mulch buckets.........JUST to get the lid off of the silly container. I'm hoping this will be the answer to my problems. I like to dump kitchen trash into my mulch pile in the back yard.........and stir it and add it to whatever I'm planting. (of course, after it bakes and breaks down for a bit..........I also like to add leaves) There is a man that rakes his leaves (that lives near us) and bags them up and puts them on the sidewalk.........they're always such nice leaves with no trash, so I watch out ...

Old Things

I LOVE old 'diner' type dishes. sniff sniff I found this hat in the 'cold weather' box yesterday. My girls wore this. Now all of their heads are too big. Wait, let me re-word that. Now I don't have any really little girls. sniff sniff ice crusher in turquoise bread box in green and off white old stove piece in white diner dishes in green, blue and maroon (gummi bear in orange) yellow walls

friends

friends are wonderful things they can be all different shapes and sizes very different and you can still love them (what if we were all the same?) isn't it fun when you have a friend that likes the same things you do? when our friends like the same things we do, it is even more fun when they apply their own 'twist' (lace on an apron?) well, I like aprons, but I don't want one with lace. but I'll make you one with lace if that's what you want. I have lots of friends and I'm very thankful for them. I have all different kinds of friends. I have a friend that helps me sew. I have a friend that encourages me to do better. I have a friend that I can call and tell her I don't have time to talk! I have a friend that gives me OLD things for gifts. Can you believe it? He who has 1,000 friends has none to spare. I just keep thinking of three ladies standing together visiting when I see this picture. These three particular ladies are VERY domestic. windowsill di...
