The little sharp vexations And the briars that cut the feet, Why not take all to the Helper Who has never failed us yet? Tell him about the heartache, And tell him the longings too, Tell him the baffled purpose When we scarce know what to do. then, leaving all our weakness With the One divinely strong, Forget that we bore the burden And carry away with the song. Mist

I know not what shall befall me; God hangs a mist o'er my eyes, And thus each step of my onward path He makes new scenes to rise, And every joy he sends me Comes as a sweet and glad surprise. So I go on not knowing;I would not if I might; I would rather walk in the dark with God Than go alone in the light; I would rather walk with him by faith, Than walk alone by sight.

Summer

"I question not if thrushes sing, If roses load the air; Beyond my heart I need not reach When all is summer there."     - John Vance Cheney

Psalm 28

Psalm 28 1 Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit. 2 Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle. 3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts. 4 Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert. 5 Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up. 6 Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. 8 The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strengt

just a funny

I guess Alisa didn't think this was too funny.....

June

I like to open the door just before I go to bed, and lean out and listen to the world breathing. June fills the air with sweetness, and the meadow brims with moonlight. And I have a quick sense of the loveliness of summer. taken from STILLMEADOW SAMPLER Gladys Taber

Summer

Somehow the summer always waned and vanished into fall, While memories would fade and soon were gone beyond recall, Till now no magic can reclaim the time when I was small.
I dearly love sweet relics brought from spots where I have been They seem to certify the facts Of Memory's pictured scene.

I Love My Dad

Wayne. My dad. The older I get, the more people I run into that share their childhood with me. More people than I care to think of did not have a good childhood. I did. My parents did not divorce, we didn't live in shacks, we always had food and Christmas presents. But most of all, I had dad. He didn't hand me money, but he changed the oil in my cars. He never took me to Disneyland, but he did take me to Lake Wilson. He isn't the smartest man in world, but I'd rather spend a week with him than anybody. He could possibly be the funniest man in the world. He has a song for every possible thing that can happen. If I had a dime for every time he slapped me with a piece of bologna, I'd buy a Ford Flex.  Loaded. He built tree houses, took walks and moved bricks. Or more like it, had my sister and I move them. Bricks are made to move. Rocks are made to be found and saved. Hoses are made to spray people. Pork chops are to be eaten 4 times a week. TV's are for game show

Old Books New To Me

Faith Baldwin-Evening Star " In the leafy month of June..."  Coldridge A book of crisis and seasons. Amy Carmichael-Rose from Brier The Bible is amazing.  Continually things that differ as much as things can, are bound together by golden chains. William C. Edgar-Judson Moss Bemis, Pioneer On arrival at Buffalo the party boarded a boat bound for Detroit, the wagons being hoisted to the deck to be used as cabins to sleep in. I bought these three books today at a thrift store for fifty-cents each. I have been hankering for a good book to read, maybe now I have *three* !! I like old books better than new books.

you would think I would learn....

I see women and girls all the time with a little clip on the top of their head. The lady that assisted the dentist I went to see last year some time...had a little clip on the top of her head.  She was growing her bangs out. When I see it, I think, I imagine she's sorry she ever cut her bangs....cause now look. You struggle for two years trying to get them long enough to go behind your ears.....or at least long enough to look like they are *that short* on purpose. Every time I cut bangs on one of my daughters, I was sorry, and they usually were too. If they weren't sorry, I made them sorry. If people ask me what I'm doing...sometimes I say: "I'm growing my bangs out." What are you doing?

Larkspurs

The Larkspurs are going to seed. I love it. They rattle when you bump into them. You can see little black seeds on the ground around the plants. Each day there are more to gather. I know my Grandma used to gather seeds from her flowers. I have an envelope that used to have seeds in it from her. It said:  Sweet William I love to save seeds for the next growing season. The plants and flowers just seem to mean more. Now they are not coming from a package I bought from the Dollar General . Now they are growing from seeds I saved. Just like Grandma .

It's a Waste

Frugality.    It used to be a necessity.  Today it is not.  People have to write books to remind us to use a milk jug for bird seed.....and a broom handle to hold up a tomato plant. Quotes from THE SPIRITS OF 76, by Eric Sloane: Throwing things away has become an American habit. It must have made life powerfully meaningful and extraordinarily exciting to create necessities like soap...... The spirit of frugality began its decline slowly until the last few decades of acceleration, when we have overcome the fine art of saving and finally established a unique economy of waste.  Frugality is frowned upon as being associated with stinginess or poverty, yet it is actually a source of the richer life because frugality is founded on the principle that all wealth has limits.  Frugality is also a mark of intelligence and sensitivity.......... "Savings" nowadays refers only to money; if you say a person "saves" a lot, you usually infer that he has a lot of cash

Consider the Lilies of the Field

Never grow a wishbone daughter Where your backbone ought to be And why take ye thought for your raiment? Consider the lilies of the field How they grow They toil not Neither do they spin spin spin Neither do they spin spin spin.

Life Goes On

The trees were just the right size....to wear these aprons most of the day. I have garage sales for different reasons.  It all comes down to money, but there are lots of different ways to spend money which make lots of different reasons to make money. This garage sale was for something specific. We are taking a trip. A big trip. We will be taking our last two kids to Washington DC and New York..... and lots of things in between. So, I wanted spending money. It is a challenge to make the money myself. Garage sales aren't a lot of fun....especially in this heat.....but they are worth it. I put sunscreen on three times. I brushed my hair once. We ate donuts, McDonalds and had Sonic. and animal cookies

Alisa and the S.S. Room

On Sunday mornings I go into the girl classroom and prepare for the lesson.  I put things on the table, I get the colored pencils ready, I take things out of my bag, I pick out songs.....AND *jabber* with Alisa. She comes in, I give her the little calendar cards, she drops them on the floor, we sing, she picks up the cards, we jabber some more. I put her on the little chair just so she can feel what it will be like to be two. I can't wait for next Sunday. It is a sweet sweet little time we have together.

from: Charity and its Fruits

If love is the sum of Christianity, surely those things which overthrow love are exceedingly unbecoming to Christians. And so we find it by experience.  When contention comes into a place, it seems to prevent all good. An envious Christian, a malicious Christian, a cold and hard hearted Christian, is the greatest absurdity and contraditction. It is as if one should speak of dark brightness, or false truth! No works are so becoming as those of love.  If you call yourself a Christian, where are your works of love?  Have you abounded, and do you abound in them? If this divine and holy principle is in you, and reigns in you, will it not appear in your life in works of love? Consider.  What deeds of love have you done? And how much have you denied yourself to promote the Redeemer's interest among men? If your heart is full of love, it will find vent; you will find or make ways enough to express your love in deeds. ( my words:  We find many things to *vent*......we ma

28 on the 28th.

One week ago, we were sitting at the A.D. Player's waiting to see one of their plays.  It wasn't the best one we've seen.....I guess if there is a favorite something, there has to also be a least favorite, too. We were celebrating our 28th anniversary....on the 28th.  We went to Salt Grass Steakhouse, my favorite place for a salad....then we went to the play.  Little Foxes. We were hoping to get some pie at the Pie House, but it looked like 23,883 other people had the same idea. We did go the next morning for breakfast.  We had a very normal breakfast, one of these days we will go back for pie. We *window* shopped at the Galleria Mall, drank a Starbuck's coffee, went to a couple thrift stores in Pearland....then ate at Olive Garden. I'm very thankful for the 28 years on the 28th.  I'd do it again.  What is 28+28?
