dishes

There are some things I do to make dish washing more fun (?)........I bought this little container at the SPCA thrift store.....Billy charged me too much for it, but that's another story.  If everybunny puts their dirty silverware in it, then when it's time to do dishes, all the silverware is in ONE place.  I hate to have little unsteady piles of dishes waiting to be done.....like some sort of game....and this seems to help.  We also stack plates and bowls........this also makes shorter piles and less tipping and tumbling.  The kitchen, by choice, does not have an automatic dishwasher. If you have LOTS of dirty dishes, that means you have lots of help to do them.  It kind of evens out.  If there are only two of you, then there are only two people getting dishes dirty.

I also buy fun dishrags.  I do like the netting on one side, and cloth on the other.  These were from Ross.....I don't go into that store very often because it's usually a mess.  When I went a week or so ago, the racks were practically empty from Christmas shoppers!  Don't use faded, pitiful dishrags.  Get some pretty ones.  You'll be glad you did!  My favorite dish-soap right now is:  Dawn/New Zealand Springs Scent.  It's aqua colored and smells like....well, New Zealand Springtime!

You're talking to a faded dishrag person. Green Palmolive is detergent of preference. I also have a favorite "scratcher". Well, two of them to be exact.

I like your silverware idea, BTW...
i have to put my dishes in piles before i can wash them, too.
allllla silverware in one place.
alllla cups. alllla plates. it makes it so much calmer to wash.

or sumpin.

I completely agree about the dish towels and the container for silverware. And if I know I can't get the silverware right away I like to have some water in there so stuff doesn't harden.

YUP, my little container is often filled with hot soapy water!

For the last couple of weeks I have been contemplaing on getting rid of our dishwasher and using the space for more cabinet space. Never tried the New Zealand Springtime, but I might buy some to send to my missionary friends in New Zealand. They could tell us if it really does smell like springtime there. LOL

New Zealand spring time!! I've never smelled any other than TX and MS spring times. :)
I need some new cup towels. You can see through some of them.

I LOVE your dishtowels! I'm in need of some new ones too. Think I'll head up to Ross for some of those pretty colors! I love Gain/Regular Scent dish soap..but usually buy the cheapest Dawn or Gain. Gain reminds me of the smell of clean clothes...already folded and put away...not heaped in the laundry basket. (Although that smells good too!)

Oh yes, dishes to be washed must rinsed and neatly stacked. Then they must be washed in a certain order so that they fit the right way in the dish drainer. Now I need new dish cloths too! However ... I must disagree slightly with the lots of dishes=lots of people to help wash. My two little ones generate plenty of dishes but they are no help cleaning them! So I love my dishwasher. :)

I'm with you on the pretty dishrags! I have used and used and used a drawer full until they all just look yuk! I am slowly, but surely, throwing those into the true 'rag' pile and am replacing with pretties! I enjoy picking up new towels and dishrags here and there!

Growing up my job was drying the dishes; my grandmother washed them. I miss her. We had lots of good conversations and lots of giggles, a side very few people ever saw of Grandma. I've been thinking that when our dishwasher finally needs to be replaced it's going to be replaced with a drying rack and a few pretty tea towels. :)

My Favorite Child

I wish I had all the pictures I wanted, to go with this blog post........because I know a *picture paints a thousand words*, but for a large part of our family's life, old fashion cameras and old fashion pictures were being used.  So, many of the pictures that would help paint this post are somewhere in boxes and books.  It would take a month of Sundays to find them all so  I will just have to count on your imagination and my memory! FAVORITE: most liked, preferred above all others Sara, you were my favorite.  You were our first baby and we were so excited for you.  Your hair was perfect for me to learn how to braid and you always were very still for me.  You were the first little girl I got to dress up and put lacy socks on.  You were such a fun little girl to read to.  You memorized the books we had and it was a big part of our day to read with each other.  *where is the bear when the wind blows cold?*.    You have always been interested in the *family tree*, dates, p
