Mom

She used to be young.

Her much loved 'state' plates.

We ALWAYS knew where the scissors were.
Right in this cabinet.
And they always smelled good.
How in the world did my mom make every day scissors smell good?

If there was a flat surface, it deserved a doily.
If there was a pillow, there was a home-made case for it.

CLOTH table cloths, pretty pot-holders.
She has stuff from when I was a kid that she still uses.
It's because she took care of things.
She was actually very gentle on everything.

She sent this home with me.
We've had these cactus ever since I can remember.
In some kind of pot.
Kansas winters mean she has to bring her plants in....
she said she couldn't carry this one in anymore.
It was too heavy.

A stool full of hen and chicks.
Why not?

She now owns a new-fangled camera.
I hope she enjoys it.

I love you mom.

Hundreds of stars in the pretty sky,
Hundreds of shells on the shore together,
Hundreds of birds that go singing by,
Hundreds of birds in the sunny weather.
Hundreds of dew-drops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one Mother the wide world over.

I absolutely love this post (and I know I'd love your mother, too)! The picture of jacks at the top brought back a lot of memories....and I'm trying to figure out how a scissors could smell "good"?!?

Kansas. I was born there. Hutchinson.

A rare picture, Mo. I don't know if I have ever seen one of you and your mom. Loved the post. I like the Hens and Chicks, but not the little cacti. Sorry...I know YOU do, and that's what counts.

You are my bb.

My Favorite Child

I wish I had all the pictures I wanted, to go with this blog post........because I know a *picture paints a thousand words*, but for a large part of our family's life, old fashion cameras and old fashion pictures were being used.  So, many of the pictures that would help paint this post are somewhere in boxes and books.  It would take a month of Sundays to find them all so  I will just have to count on your imagination and my memory! FAVORITE: most liked, preferred above all others Sara, you were my favorite.  You were our first baby and we were so excited for you.  Your hair was perfect for me to learn how to braid and you always were very still for me.  You were the first little girl I got to dress up and put lacy socks on.  You were such a fun little girl to read to.  You memorized the books we had and it was a big part of our day to read with each other.  *where is the bear when the wind blows cold?*.    You have alw...
