Colossians 3

We were told last night (4th night of revival services with Brother Hudson from Alvin)  that Colossians 3 covers just about everything we need to do....to be what we ought to be.

My favorite Bible chapter has always been Romans 12 for that very reason.

Present your bodies a living sacrifice....be not conformed to this world.....think soberly.....prefer one another....rejoice in hope....be patient in tribulation......rejoice with those that rejoice, weep with those that weep, mind not high things.....abhor that which is evil....recompense to no man evil for evil.....overcome evil with good.

This is a great list of things to do.

Some people I have spoken to about the Bible get very defensive and say the Bible is NOT a book of lists.  It isn't a book of do's and don't's.  The Bible may not be written in list form, but you can surely make a nice list of things FROM the Bible.

Lists are good things and can do many things for us.
They can help us pack for a trip, to go camping, and a list is always good to have when you're shopping.  Lists give us purpose, goals and something to work for.  It's always nice to check things off that have been completed.  Lists help keep us on track, prevent unnecessary trips, and to stay busy when we'd rather be toodling around.  Lists can be as simple as eggs/milk/ bread OR as complicated as a chemist.

I am a list person.  I write all kinds of lists.  My lists are all written for one reason.  Please get SOMETHING done Michele.  I feel better when things are written down.  I sleep better.
I need to remember to do the important things.  Just because something is important doesn't mean I will remember it.......so I write it down.
Why go through your days without a plan.

So, as I look through Colossians 3.....I see many things the Lord wants us to do and apply to our daily lives.  The Bible isn't something you can mark through after you have done something once.
It isn't a grocery list......or a Saturday 'to do' list.......it isn't a one time or random thing.  This is maybe our biggest problem.....we want to be kind ONE time.  To forgive ONE time.  OK, I'm thankful. I'm done now. And just how many times do I have to be humble?

seek those things which are above
set your affection on things above
mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth
put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication of of your mouth
lie not one to another
put on therefore, as the elect of God, hold and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering
forbear one another
and forgiving one another
put on charity
let the peace of God rule in your hearts
let the word of Christ dwell in you richly
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus
giving thanks to God
wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands
husbands, love your wives and be not bitter against them
children obey your parents in all things
fathers, provoke not your children to anger
servants, obey in all things your masters
and whatsoever he do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

There's something we can start the day with!  Christians should never be bored.  This gives direction.  It isn't confusing.....we make it confusing because it is hard to apply. This chapter WAY covers enough to keep us busy every day. If the Lord told us to do these things.....they must be possible.  Realistic expectations.

We may ask the Lord what He wants us to do. What is your will for me?  We can start here.
Don't piddle your Christian life away doing things that are not profitable.

Excellent Michele!!! I think about even Christ knew exactly what it was He had to do when He came and when it was done, He said, "IT IS FINISHED." I want to finish the things the Lord has for me to do while I am here and to do it with love looking to Christ as my example in all things. Thank you!! Grandma

Imagine the Creator of the Universe 'daring' to have a list of "do's and don'ts". I figure He made us; He has every right to set the ground rules for our salvation! I love the book of Colossians.

I wish I had all the pictures I wanted, to go with this blog post........because I know a *picture paints a thousand words*, but for a large part of our family's life, old fashion cameras and old fashion pictures were being used.  So, many of the pictures that would help paint this post are somewhere in boxes and books.  It would take a month of Sundays to find them all so  I will just have to count on your imagination and my memory!
