Learned Something New

We went to the beach today. We usually don't go this early in the season, but time has afforded us to go, so we do. Everybody knows the colder it is, the better shell seeking is. Right now the beach is covered with shells.........none that would sell in a store called The Shell Shop, but they're fun to look for anyway! I cut the top off of a liquid laundry soap bottle and that's what I carry to put shells in. It works better than a plastic bag, believe me.

Two older women passed me today and they had little cloth bags they were putting their found treasure in. They passed back by us again and I asked them what they were looking for. I told them I like to find just the regular shells with holes in them.......so you can hang them from things. They said they looked for GLASS!

(I've been avoiding the glass!!!)

They said it gets tumbled and polished just like a rock, then it's not sharp and jagged on the sides anymore. They showed me some of theirs. It IS pretty. But I only have ONE piece. It is hard to find. The sharp pieces of glass are everywhere....but not the beautiful tumbled safe glass.......collector's glass.....so I learned something new today. I officially am collecting sea glass now. My one piece is about the size of a quarter.

I have a feeling this collection is going to be a challenge. There are rabbits EVERYWHERE........so they're easy.

Could you get regular sharp glass and put it in one of those rock tumbler thingies? Or does that take the fun out of collecting the smooth "beach glass"? :)

aww.. so cool.. several ladies at our church collect sea glass too. I'm pretty good at finding it so when we go to the beach I get some for them..They put them in a glass container and it looks real professional...hope u can find more.

Me back again... in todays Our State North Carolina has an article about sea glass. Seems this woman named Nellie Myrtle Midgett Pridgen, walked the beaches of Nags Head for 60 years. She has numberous jars of sea glass. They are sorted by color and are on display in her family's store. Very interesting article!

My Favorite Child

I wish I had all the pictures I wanted, to go with this blog post........because I know a *picture paints a thousand words*, but for a large part of our family's life, old fashion cameras and old fashion pictures were being used.  So, many of the pictures that would help paint this post are somewhere in boxes and books.  It would take a month of Sundays to find them all so  I will just have to count on your imagination and my memory! FAVORITE: most liked, preferred above all others Sara, you were my favorite.  You were our first baby and we were so excited for you.  Your hair was perfect for me to learn how to braid and you always were very still for me.  You were the first little girl I got to dress up and put lacy socks on.  You were such a fun little girl to read to.  You memorized the books we had and it was a big part of our day to read with each other.  *where is the bear when the wind blows cold?*.    You have always been interested in the *family tree*, dates, p
