#8 ABC's

*O*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Offer rewards, bribes, presents, gifts, and nice things to people that do things for you, and mostly, when your kids do what I call *Strange Jobs*.

Strange jobs:  cleaning all the ceiling fans, yard trash, clean out car and truck and van, take down all the curtains and wash them and hang them on the line, or go a *junking* for me.  Junking means I see something on the road and either a kid was with me and I made them hop out and get the item......or I got them from the house so they could help.....and for a certain time, I would just come home and tell the boys where something was.  Once I sent them out for a bathtub I saw and they came back with a rabbit cage.

I've always had the kids UNDO things for me, then I would clean whatever it was and put the things back.  They will take eVERythINg out of the garage and put it on the driveway, then I would go through the stuff and only put back what I wanted to keep.  Same with the telephone book drawer and Blue's Room.  Just clear it out and I will go through the stuff and put it back in order.  We've done it with school books, kitchen cabinets, camping stuff and the wash-room, too.

I can think of more strange jobs than anybunny I know by the way.......if you have kids and they are bored, just call me.  I will think of something for them to do.

The kids always worked better if they knew they would get something for their efforts.  Call it a bribe....I called it incentive.  Sometimes people need a boost to help them get something done, and sometimes you REALLY need something done....so it all works out nicely.

I even buy the girls the kind of dish washing liquid they like.  Hey, it's the least I can do.  They don't really see it as a present though.  If you found yourself regularly doing dishes at my house, I would do the same for you.

We never gave our kids an allowance when they were young.....(and we didn't charge them rent when they were older)............so doing a job for a treat, was quite a treat!   Now don't think we gave them something for everything they did.  If you lived in this house, you were expected to help and not be rewarded for every little thing you did.....but there is nothing wrong for a reward in the shape of a Cherry Coke once in a while!

I was always on the look-out to make a job be more fun, a task get done quicker and a messy garage turned into a funday!  We live in a 2,000 square foot house that has 13 rooms and a one car garage, a huge front yard, a long side yard, my side of the back yard and the swing-set back yard.  I needed all kinds of help all the time.  We used to be a family of 8 which meant there were at any given time, EIGHT messes......so when Strange Jobs needed done, I used candy, the dollar menu at McDonald's, Sonic, Buc-ees, and Stop-n-Go to help me.....I hope the kids will all look back and remember the fun part of the jobs they had to do....and not the unpleasant parts.  I knew I was making memories.....

If you need help with a *Strange Job* , I just hope you live near Sonic.....

You have a lovely family and I am sure they will all look back with fond memories of you as a mom who took the time to make their chores easier and more fun. I got a big chuckle out of the kids bringing home a bathtub instead of the birdcage.:)

My Favorite Child

I wish I had all the pictures I wanted, to go with this blog post........because I know a *picture paints a thousand words*, but for a large part of our family's life, old fashion cameras and old fashion pictures were being used.  So, many of the pictures that would help paint this post are somewhere in boxes and books.  It would take a month of Sundays to find them all so  I will just have to count on your imagination and my memory! FAVORITE: most liked, preferred above all others Sara, you were my favorite.  You were our first baby and we were so excited for you.  Your hair was perfect for me to learn how to braid and you always were very still for me.  You were the first little girl I got to dress up and put lacy socks on.  You were such a fun little girl to read to.  You memorized the books we had and it was a big part of our day to read with each other.  *where is the bear when the wind blows cold?*.    You have always been interested in the *family tree*, dates, p
