What I Bought Today

O.K.
I have been bummed out about not being able to post pictures........but I ought to just blog anyway. You my blogging buddies will just have to use your imagination here.
I bought some fun things today........most of them being very useful.

I finally found my HIT cookies at our Wal-Mart. Since they remodeled, they got rid of animal crackers and now they have HIT cookies. It is a sort of a dry biscuit with 'calm' chocolate frosting sandwiched in between.

I also bought a beautiful mango. I hope to use it when we have tilapia. I put two recipes together and came up with: red onion, jalapeno pepper, mango, pineapple, olive oil, garlic, cilantro and fresh lime juice. Mix those ingredients altogether and put them on top of the tilapia, wrap it in foil and cook on the grill. If I can do it, you can.

Instead of turbinado sugar, I got certified organic sugar. I can't wait to see what it does for coffee. I hope the absence of pesticides doesn't ruin the taste.......

In the '75%' off baskets at Kroger, I found two packages of decaff coffee. It is Explorer's Bounty, Expedition Adventure, Sumatran Single Origin. It is also certified organic. I'm sure whipping cream and my pour coffee stuff will make up for the absence of pesticides.

I also got some stuff to clean with. Ajax with bleach. I love that stuff. I wish I had a white bathtub to scrub, the old kind of tub that could take Ajax......not the new kind where abrasive cleaners are off limits. Like my kitchen sink. Thankfully, there are still a few things in our house that aren't sensitive to Ajax.

I also got some multi surface cleaner. Guess what sold me? vinegar. It has vinegar. Now how clean is that? I hope it's organic. I'm on a roll here.

I got the clumping kind of cat litter. No more cheap stuff.

I also got a box of diamond matches. I will never again buy store brand matches. They just are not worth it. I love big old kitchen matches. 250 in each box times 3. That's a lot of neat little fires. I especially need them to start the grill. I had my husband buy me one of those chimney things where you don't NEED lighter fluid. Well, if I don't use lighter fluid, I use matches. LOTS of them. I hope I'm still saving money somehow. I also bought some charcol today. I would love to just buy the self lighting type stuff, but since I have my little chimney, I can't do it with a clear conscience. It would just be a luxury.

When I enter our newly remodeled Wal-mart, I feel like I am on a scavenger hunt. I can't find the light bulbs or the plastic table cloths. The school stuff is where the cosmetics used to be, the cat food is where the towels used to be. The pharmacy is where the coffee pots used to be......the rice and the hot dogs are where they belong. Guess what's for supper tomorrow night.......
I got some face scrub, EQUATE brand. I was looking for more EQUATE brands, but I guess they moved them all too.

And of course, I bought the buy one get one free VIVE pro shampoo at the wrong store. HEB was higher than Kroger, but too late. I got the orange bottle....smooth gloss Anti-Frizz shampoo. It has camelina seed oil. That's a new one. I guess camels really are useful. If nothing else, the bottle sure is a pretty color. The other is FOR MEN. 2-in-1. I love 2-in-1 stuff. It smells really good. The bottle is a bit depressing.......it's black with red and gold writing.

I remembered the candles!!!!! Amber will be with us next Friday and it is her birthday. We are going to the beach and will hopefully make a fun day for her. I don't know if we will have a cake or not, but we have the candles.

You know that Chex mix? They have salty, pretzle, nutty, turtle, crackery type mixes. I usually buy the sweet kind. Well, we like it with extra m&m's. I bought a large package of dark chocolate ones. I debated back and forth about it and then finally put it in the cart.

Well, here is the really fun part!
I found Lydia some thermal wear.....we will be going to Colorado at the end of September (if all goes as planned) with some friends and I have heard that SOME places get cool/cold that time of year. Very unlike where we are so we don't have warm play clothes. Our cold days are very random. Then I found some Polar Edge snow boots. They are size 8. Surely they will fit somebody! I also found Lydia a cute little purse. It is black with two short straps. The front has the bottom part of a girl in a skirt and jacket. The bemittened girl is holding bags and a leash with a poodle. The zipper has a dog bone on it. I hope she likes it. It was a whole dollar.

I also found something I have been looking for.....a ten inch pyrex glass pie pan. YAY. It's not for me. I use 9" pans........

I got some really cute kid books.
I got an old Huckelberry Finn book. Too bad I can't read Roman numerals so I could see just how old it really is.
MCMXXXIX
I will sell it somewhere.

Sam's Big Worry. Looks like a book about a bear and his woodland friends getting ready for winter.

Thimble Summer.
First sentence: Garnet thought this must be the hottest day that had ever been in the world.

Where's My Share? I don't like the sound of that title at all, but the pictures are really pretty.
Where is the forest? covered in snow.

For me I got The Pocket Book of Quotations. They are conveniently arranged by subject.........

It is a principle of human nature to hate those whom you have injured.

Blessed is the man who, having nothing to say, abstains from giving us wordy evidence of the fact.

And 'tis remarkable that they
Talk most who have the least to say.

He had occasional flashes of silence, that made his conversation perfectly delightful.

He that falls in love with himself, will have no rivals.

Men are not hanged for stealing horses, but that horses may not be stolen.

(that was straight out of Bonanza!)

I would much rather have men ask why I have no statue than why I have one.

Then, a red and white decorated book named A Box Of Peppermints. This is a jabbing hilarious book..........uneven poem type......

Aunt Ella
Gave me a box of Peppermints
The other day.
First thing I did
Was peep under the top layer,
To see if they were
All there.

Starting on a trip
In the wee dark hour of the morning
Is like everything loves you.
Even the moon doesn't want you to leave
and tags along
Over your shoulder.

Once
I kept my sunday clothes on
All day long,
And no one came to
See us.

This book one of the girls will really enjoy this next year.....Grammar and Usage. Basics of English.
It is a pretty red and yellow and a very nice size.

It is a fill in the blank type book.
Don't you just love trying to make the word ECHO a plural?

THEN, I bought a REAL book from a REAL store. All of those other books cost dimes and quarters..........this one caught my eye and I just had to have it!

A is for Apron.
25 fresh and flirty designs.
If you know me at all, I will skip the flirty part, don't worry.
There is a pattern for one that you wear over a t-shirt. I can't wait to make it.......but somehow I have to figure out how to make my own pattern by looking at a little picture. ho-hum. at least the book is fun to look at and dream.

"A good apron becomes like a second skin; you forget you've got it on."

And then sadly, I bought a sympathy card for John and Sara. They lost their baby last week. It was a little boy with the cord wrapped around his neck. They are so sad. They buried him in their church cemetery and now must go on without him.
The card says:
~~~~~~~~~Some gifts you hold in your hand........
~~~~~Some you hold in your heart.

I always call newborn babies little presents.
This one will be in their hearts and never their hands.
Pray for them.

My Favorite Child

I wish I had all the pictures I wanted, to go with this blog post........because I know a *picture paints a thousand words*, but for a large part of our family's life, old fashion cameras and old fashion pictures were being used.  So, many of the pictures that would help paint this post are somewhere in boxes and books.  It would take a month of Sundays to find them all so  I will just have to count on your imagination and my memory! FAVORITE: most liked, preferred above all others Sara, you were my favorite.  You were our first baby and we were so excited for you.  Your hair was perfect for me to learn how to braid and you always were very still for me.  You were the first little girl I got to dress up and put lacy socks on.  You were such a fun little girl to read to.  You memorized the books we had and it was a big part of our day to read with each other.  *where is the bear when the wind blows cold?*.    You have always been interested in the *family tree*, dates, p
