Rabbit Trails

These are a few pic from our vacation... Hope ya like 'em! Can you see the Cougar in this picture?? My dad was standing right in front of it and he said, I can't see anything! It was really funny! I think that was at the Witchita zoo in Kansas.. It was my FIRST night in a hotel!!! It was really fun! We stayed in Best Western through out our trip. They had really good Breakfast's, there beds were REALLY comfy... Escpecially the pillows!!!!!!!! The first night we stayed in the Hotel, we watched 'The Secret Life Of Walter Minny... or Finny, or Dinny...... I KNOW it has a 'inny' in it, but i don't know what the first letter it! Hehehe! But Best Western is the best! (even though Best Western is the only Hotel I've stayed in!!!!) This was me and a Bronze Giraffe.. All through out alllll the zoos we went to had Bronze animals in it. I took a picture with a, Gorrilla, Rabbit, Chimpanzee, Warthog, (i think) an Elephant, and a Lion... I think there was more

I am on a child-rearing/homeschooling board.....and some women wanted to know what Lydia and I would be doing this year........so read on!

I don't know if we will get around to the Abeka health book. It has a workbook with it.......I might just have Lydia read this book and if something strikes her, like a knee bone, we will do further reading. The Language Helps book is from 1928.......this could be a very interesting book.........morals have changed in this country. I guess I will see if English has too! Language 3 is from Abeka also.........it has grammar, creative writing skills (of which Lydia does not need) and dictionary skills. Lots of fill in the blank work. I don't know for sure how far we will go with grammar this year.......there's plenty of time for that later on. I'm not too pleased with her spelling books. She has the rest of an undone workbook from last year, some workbooks from Abeka and a Word Book. I will have to do some thinking on this subject. I jot down the words Lydia spells wrong in her work, then I have her copy them and learn them correctly...... Spelling, health and Engl

Rod and Staff readers and workbooks. The other 5 kids did all of these to the end and it was worth every minute and every penny we spent on them. Workbooks and all. Lydia will be finishing up the gray books this year. I have on purpose made stretched them out for her. We're in no hurry, here. Lydia will be require to read The Great Fire and Blizzard. She is in the middle of Read and Think book 5 and will probably get through lots of book 6 this school year also. The books are from A-beka......read about Sara Hale, then answer questions. Since Lydia is the last school kid, she gets to write in these books. The other 5 had to do them on paper. Book 5, Sara began August 93 and ended May 94. Lydia began December 07 and will end.......? Kingfsher Horses....history, behavior, breeds, riding, jumping. Reading, learning, answering questions. Reading......

Peep Behind the Scenes......from D.L. Moody $5.95 To say the least, this is good literature. A Family Secret, Vanity Fair, Skirrywinks, In Sight of Home.........I'm not sure what I will do with this book......whether to just let her read it, do it with her, or write out questions for her. Do You KNow the Answer? from Rod and Staff $6.05 This is a Bible Quiz book. Who am I? I lived in the land of Uz. the Bible says that I feared God and eschewed evil. (page 73) How many tribes were there in Israel? How many years of famine wee there in Egypt? I hope to be a good teacher and do this with her. The Bible Alphabet of Animals......each letter has an animal and a chapter. nighthawk, camel, kite, peacock, scorpion, unicorn......... Exploring Arithmetic 3.....Rod and Staff$12.55 This is a hardback (I make it consumable) book that is just page after page of the same thing.........this is when Lydia will learn multiplication and harder story problems than last year. 1/2 of 22 4X8+2= 8 spring peepers sat on each tree. How may peepers sat on 1/2 dozen trees? She will have a X and division Practice Tablet, learn a little geometry, Sets and Numbers workbook, and Time, Money and Fractions. The hardback Rod and Staff math book was purchased at the book fair......the workbooks I came across and saved or look for and found. This would be 'math'.

Keyboarding......Lydia pretty much knows how to type.......but I'm going to make sure she's using the right fingers on the right keys. Modern Manuscript......I looked and looked for this kind of work book, I wanted something that showed a kid how to 'join' cursive letters. Lydia started Handwriting With George last year and will finish it this year. There are rules for civility and decent behaviour, you copy them and then draw a picture to illustrate the virtue. (show nothing to your friend that may affright them) (this is a fun work book) !!! Penmanship for Christian Writing is from Rod and Staff.......$5.35 This book teaches strokes and swoops to help with cursive. Every page is about a bird and the cursive that is learned, is bird facts. Practice Pals is just a 'write on-wipe clean' practice book. I already have the cool little markers ready for this book. God's Protected World from Rod and Staff.......she didn't finish this book last year. It has always been one of my favorites to use. I have names and dates recorded in the front of this book when each child started it and finished it. It appears that we didn't have it for Sara. I love the chapters....God gave us heat and cold.....God cares for man.....God gave us water........ This book has vocab words, a nice easy chapter to read, good pictures and questions at the end of each chapter. A Field Guide to the Birds is a color book and information book. It is realisitc pictures of birds, each bird has a small paragraph. Lydia reads a few pages for an assignment and colors the bird she chooses. (she doesn't have to color all of them) 100 Texas Wildflowers was a present from Aunt Theresa to me a few years back. We will use it this year to read and hopefully identify flowers we see in our own area and state! Lydia will read about each flower.......there is a nice pi
