More About the Trip

This would be the first time we came *up* from the subway to see DC at night. As you can see, it was rather breezy in the subway station.  I always kept Lydia's card in my purse, and every time I handed it to her, I could just see it flying off in a man-made breeze. This never did happen....just another unfounded fear. We drove a lot and saw lots of things. Probably the most strange would be these water-buffalo made out of pipe....or pipes in the shape of water-buffalo? And everybody does NOT have a water-buffalo. I kept random and sporadic track of some funny things I saw and a few things that were said, wish I would have had the forethought to do it during the whole trip.  Sometimes I was more tired than I thought something was comical, so it didn't get recorded.  Sometimes I wanted to write a note into my phone, but couldn't hold a coffee, an umbrella, slip around on a wet sidewalk, hang onto my new camera and watch traffic...all at the same time.... so, the though

A Paragraph from the Book: LADDIE by Gene Stratton Porter

I always thought the sitting-room was nicer than the parlour.  the woodwork was white enamel there too, but the bureau and chairs were just cherry and not too precious to use.  They were every bit as pretty.  The mantel was much larger.  I could stand up in the fireplace, and it took two men to put on an everyday log, four the Christmas one.  One each side were the book shelves above, and the linen closets below.  The mantel set between these, and mother always used the biggest, most gorgeous bouquets there, because she had so much room.  The hearth was a slab of stone that came far into the room.  We could sit on it and crack nuts, roast apples, chestnuts, and warm our cider, then sweep all the muss we made into the fire.  The wall paper was white and pale pink in stripes, and on the pink were little handled baskets filled with tiny flowers of different colours.  We sewed the rags for the carpet ourselves, and it was the prettiest thing.  One stripe was wide, all gray, brown, and dull

A Tale of Three Trips

Six kids divided into three groups of two means three trips. Brother Thomas,an old preacher friend, many years ago sat in our frontroom and told my husband to try to take our kids on trips. We go camping, to Kansas, to Mississippi and to weddings, but the trip 'Up North' is the trip taken on purpose.....for lots of reasons. We wanted the kids to have a DC/NY memory and this Friday concluded our efforts. We did different things with the different kids, but had fun with all six ....we met lots of people and made friends on the trips. We made memories from Slap Ya Mama spice to Silver Springs, Maryland, and lots in between. Here is an account of the things we did: (if any of you six kids read this and detect an error, tell me and I will correct it!)(this is your chance!!) Sara and Caleb flew in Autumn and had no cell phones OR digital cameras. Olivia and Daniel drove in Autumn and we had cheesy cell phones and one digital camera we got for free somewhere..... Kimbe

Delight

Delight, if not right set, of all the affections, is apt to degenerate. We have a liberty to delight in earthly things; the affection is allowed, the excess is forbidden.

Wednesday and Thursday

For some reason, it just tickles me when I see a dog stick his head out of a car window.  This was during a traffic jam. I wonder if his name was Peanut Butter? We tried to tell them that we just wanted to drive on their roads....not buy them. I love the houses up here. A real choo-choo train to ride on. How neat is that? Spent some time with the Morrison family. This is a diner. Up here they don't pronounce the *er* like we do. This would be a smorgasbord? In Texas it is a buffet. The gift store in the basement is 41,000 square feet. I kid you not. The lobby had a sign....it asked people to please dress modestly. Looks like everybody read it and did so. So how in the world does a place like this have the right to ask people how to dress? ........nobody looked offended or mad about it either. I wonder if anybody walked off oppressed and offended about the request. Can you imagine if a church put a sign up? I can't stop taking pictures of the farms. It
People park in New Jersey and take the ferry to New York.  So that's what we did.  When you're in Rome..... My Aunt Gladys said we were going to nickel and dime her to death.....I always smile when I hear it or read it somewhere.  (and she is still alive by the way) Don't tell secrets in this corner for they will surely be heard. Feeding our (Independent KJV Baptist) tour guide.....and yes, these guys were easy to spot in a crowd. It rained cats and dogs while we ate. M&M store.....there was also a Hershey's store.  I bought an M&M spatula and measuring spoons to remember the trip.  Like I would forget it? Central Park....at this particular time, this park made our home town feel as dry as Arizona.  It was damp and humid and drippy and steamy and wet and puddle like. The Lego store.  You could buy a large cup for $17.  I don't do Lego's, M&M's or Hershey's chocolate, but the stores were still fun to go into. I clea
