Brother Dave

Very sad call on Thanksgiving morning. Brother Dave went home to be with the Lord.   We've known the Christenson family for years. Can't for sure remember what year we all met, but we all had lots of little kids. They influenced the home school books we used, and Pat gave us ALL of the books they used when they were done with them.   Dave and Pat let us use their camping trailer to live in for a short while.... and one of our children proceeded to put snake like bites in the  brand new upholstery with a meat fork.    Brother Dave came from Mexico to Dallas to be present when my husband got ordained.   After we left PVBC, we still got to see the family, once in church camp in Arkansas, mission conferences, OUR church here in Freeport, and in our home, because missionaries stayed with us.  It is always great to have *friend* missionaries stay, people we actually knew.... and this was of ...

Brazos Bend in November

To us, it was cold. 51 and windy and cloudy.   Do you spy a critter in the top picture?    During the day, there were all levels of being cold.  What you did, determined how cold you were. I found that sitting at the picnic table talking about how cold I was, didn't help a bit.      I'm pretty sure, James Kelzie stayed warm by eating.    Good old Brazos Bend and the swamps.   Right below, do you see the water birds mixed in with the swampy plants?    The girls took a walk, and this is what we saw.   Segregated water ducks.      Jessica and I did a taste test. Fanta won. No doubt. It had more zing.    Here's James with the first of many roasted marshmallows. I stopped counting how many S'mores he ate.    Hannah likes marshmallows......    Somebody told me there was a beautiful spi...

Happy Campers

The place we used to go had a shelf along one wall for 'stuff'. The place we go now, does not.  We bought a little table for our 'stuff'.  It was just right! Breakfast on Friday morning. We were supposed to have a big lunch, so breakfast was planned to be light. A volleyball game was going on so lunch and supper got rolled up into one meal. Kind of. When you're camping, you shouldn't be too worried about the clock. Right? I always bring some kind of decoration for our shelter area. This year it was Autumn Color Ribbon. I would love to get some lights like you see around campers. Maybe in the shape of little rabbits? Bunny had fun.  She loves to be around people. And anybody and everybody could pet her because we were outside and it didn't matter if she got all wound up....and pottied. She evidently isn't going to outgrow that untidy little habit of hers. This was the kitchen cabin. It's where everybody meets and eats and plays games and...

it's that time again!!

Time to go camping. With our church. I think it might rain. 30% chance can be pretty wet. Oh well. We'll have fun anyway. I remembered the grill cleaner this time. That ugly little wire brush. We have chocolate, coffee, pillows, new flashlights, old games, new beds, a fan AND a heater, root beer........and friends. And Bunny.  She doesn't even know yet.
