Two Things

These are two of my favorite things........this book is one of the best I have ever read.  It is written by my favorite author about her childhood....mostly about her crazy dad. Gladys Taber.........Especially Father If you're looking for a good book, here it is. Maybe you will like some of her others, too.  I don't agree with all of her theology, but they are good books to read before bed.....they're kind of sleepy books. Solitudes...Dan Gibson......exploring nature with music.  COUNTRY RETREAT. Sometimes this sort of music is new-age and not enjoyable to me....but this one is different and this one IS enjoyed by all of us.  I imagine we have listened to it .....well, I was going to say as much as the national debt, but probably not THAT much.  If you are pulling out of our driveway and heading to Pearland, the cd is *just right.*  About the time you're pulling in to Super Target, the cd is done.  It is also the same length from a friend's driveway fr

Will There Be Any Stars

I am thinking today of that beautiful land I shall reach when the sun goeth down; When through wonderful grace by my Savior I stand, Will there be any stars in my crown? Refrain: Will there be any stars, any stars in my crown, When at evening the sun goeth down? When I wake with the blest in the mansions of rest, Will there be any stars in my crown? In the strength of the Lord let me labor and pray, Let me watch as a winner of souls; That bright stars may be mine in the glorious day, When His praise like the sea-billow rolls. Oh, what joy it will be when His face I behold, Living gems at His feet to lay down; It would sweeten my bliss in the city of gold, Should there be any stars in my crown.

What I Read

Dorcas Acts 9

Dorcas sewed for widows and friends She used a needle to stitch and mend. She made them coats and garments with thread Until Peter was called, because she was dead. The widows stood around and cried They told Peter she got sick and died. Peter put them forth, prayed, then said Dorcas, Tabitha, arise from the dead! Her eyes opened and she arose So she could sew and sew more clothes. M. Mc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've been teaching my Sunday School girls about Dorcas.  I brought a little bag of sewing things this morning to show them.....buttons, elastic, ric-rac, snaps, thread and eyelet lace.   I told the girls that Dorcas sewed for people and was full of good works.  She died and her friends missed her and loved her so much that they sent for Peter...and for a *miracle*.  If they just lost their dressmaker, I don't think they would have been so sad.  They lost more than somebody that sewed for them....they lost

Don't Be A Snoopy Baby

In heavenly love abiding, No change my heart shall fear And safe is such confiding, For nothing changes here. The storm may roar without me, My heart may low be laid, but God is round about me, And can I be dismayed? Whenever he may guide me, No want shall turn me back; My shepherd is beside me, And nothing can I lack. His wisdom ever waketh, His sight is never dim, He knows the way he taketh, And I will walk with him. Green pastures are before me, Which yet I have not seen; Bright skies will soon be o'er me, Where darkest clouds have been. My hope I cannot measure, My path to life is free, My saviour has my treasure, And he will walk with me. A.L. Waring

Starting and Finishing

Every year since Sara was five, I have gotten school books ready.  In the beginning, it wasn't such a big production, but for many years it was.  The girls tell me that I have had 5 of the 6 kids in school at one time....I don't even remember.  I just know that some years were quite overwhelming. Just a few days of my planning and buying and figuring would be played out over the school year.......for 2,3,4,5 kids at a time.  I have made my share of book buying mistakes, but at the same time, bought books that I used for 4 or 5 of the kids....meaning they were keepers !! Nothing like a keeper book. Today I went through books for next year.  For Lydia.  Just one kid.  I do know this, I haven't have just ONE kid in school since Sara was in 1st grade.  That was a long time ago.  And that might not sound like a very busy school year....but I also had a 4 year old and a 2 year old.... I now have just one kid in school....and no littles.  She *IS* my little. sniff sniff He

three cheers for coffee

Summer is just around the corner....

It seems a green stillness, soundless, and then the songs of summer are slowly revealed, till all around the air is filled with the most perfect of any music.

Chairs.....Have a Seat.....

This is my first blog-post with my new laptop.  Can you tell? Ok, so we'll start in the office.  This is an Aunt Freida chair.  You can't really tell because it's covered up with some sort of Indian Blanket.  It is almost big enough for three people.  I wish we had the couch.  Not all chairs are meant to be used.  This might very well be one of them.  It's rather old.  Just look, don't sit. This is another office chair.  We call is a Principal Chair.  Doesn't it look like the chairs in the office at the grade school you attended? This would be the chair my husband uses to study.  I am not a fan of these kinds of chairs....I always feel like they are going to dump me out.....backwards. This is my newest chair.  But I think it is pretty old.  I have a friend that wants to help me re-do it.  I'm sure she will want it in pink.  I have a daughter that wants it in her room....with flip-flop fabric.  I think I will just keep this afghan on

MOnday MOnday

Got up and made some biscuits......the next ones I try will be yeast.  Did a load of pants and hung them outside to dry.  I always try to use free hot air if I can.  I am saving my dryer for a rainy day. Sipped on iced coffee all day.  I love my double-walled-Starbuck's-coffee-cup. Made some coffee ice cubes.  It is much nicer to have these melt in my iced coffee....it just makes more coffee. Plugged in my poor camera batteries.  They sure get a work-out. Filled my little vintage cotton ball holder up with cotton balls.  This belonged to my Granny.  She liked purple before I was even born...... I *really* need to hang these pictures up on the wall in the bedroom. I save pages out of magazines.....it takes up less room than keeping the whole silly thing....when all I like is a few pages.  I keep pages with ideas for painting, gardens and crafts.  I send friends articles I find, too.  I have an old bread box I keep all my *pages* in.  I look
