So, I get up this morning, and the rag-rug fairy tied all my rag-rug pieces together and had them wound in a nice ball. I think I will leave more out tonight and see if it can happen again.

OK. I like Ross now. These shoes were $1.49. Purple velvet DUCK SHOES. IN MY SIZE. My plans are to go into that store every time I get groceries from now on. Can't beat $1.49 for some of the neatest shoes in the world.

I have seen this in a couple of places on blogs and the internet in general. I was fully planning on ordering one....but our Kroger store had them for $12 something. We've made 6 or 7 cups of coffee with this in our K-pot....and I am tickled to have it.

I can now buy fun kinds of ground coffee.....not to say that Wal-Mart store brand decaff is a fun brand, but it's what I always used to drink. And I lived.

These are useful, not beautiful. I need useful when I garden. I bought some very low cost snippers....I am trusting that my other ones will show up.

No, I didn't get my hair done by a Smurf. It is my new duster. I love the Dollar Tree, you never know what fun things you will find. I'm not fond of dusting because I've had allergies for so many years, but the older I get, the less problem I seem to be having. What do YOU dust with?

On the left is a candle from Wal-Mart, marked down because the *season to be jolly* is over. I got the other one at Hobby Lobby.......I LOVE their candles. Don't buy one there unless they are 1/2 off. Just wait.

I've been wanting to go to this Red Robin for quite a while now.

The other night, we did.

This was our second choice,

My husband gave it a 4 on a scale of 1-10.

I thought it was more like a 7.

Our waitress needed some polishing.

The hamburgers we got were good.....

but around $8-$10 each.

I think I need to go again

There are some things I do to make dish washing more fun (?)........I bought this little container at the SPCA thrift store.....Billy charged me too much for it, but that's another story. If everybunny puts their dirty silverware in it, then when it's time to do dishes, all the silverware is in ONE place. I hate to have little unsteady piles of dishes waiting to be done.....like some sort of game....and this seems to help. We also stack plates and bowls........this also makes shorter piles and less tipping and tumbling. The kitchen, by choice, does not have an automatic dishwasher. If you have LOTS of dirty dishes, that means you have lots of help to do them. It kind of evens out. If there are only two of you, then there are only two people getting dishes dirty.

I also buy fun dishrags. I do like the netting on one side, and cloth on the other. These were from Ross.....I don't go into that store very often because it's usually a mess. When I went a week or so ago, the racks were practically empty from Christmas shoppers! Don't use faded, pitiful dishrags. Get some pretty ones. You'll be glad you did! My favorite dish-soap right now is: Dawn/New Zealand Springs Scent. It's aqua colored and smells like....well, New Zealand Springtime!

Seeds

I sing a little song with my Sunday School girls....

In the middle of a seed

buried deep so deep

I tell the girls inside those little bitty seeds may be a beautiful zinnia,

or a radish,

or cilantro,

or a huge sunflower.

How neat is it to have a little black seed that looks like a speck of dirt

turn into moss rose,

or larkspur?

I love seeds. I collect them and save them from year to year.

I bring seeds home from New Jersey.....Colorado......Kansas.

People send me seeds, too.

Seeds from a friend's gardens make sweeter flowers.

Tonight when I mowed the back yard,

I left some little patches of henbit to grow

so they could go to seed.

All I want in the back yard is henbit and grass.

Maybe some clover for Donut.

I've never ordered seeds from a catalog.

I've never needed to.

Because of our mild winters, most of my plants re-seed themselves

and multiply....whether or not I like it.

Take my 4 O'clocks.

REALLY.

Come and take them.

They grow like weeds in my front gardens.

As you see in the top picture, I have LOTS of seeds for this coming season.

I think I will put them in the back yard and they can go to town

and not be in competition with anything,

but the fence. They are the worst possible color in my book.

I thought everybunny did Picasa....

just like I thought everybunny

studied Kansas history in 4th grade.

If you don't have a picture program,

Picasa is free and fun.

They just added all sorts of things you can do with

your pictures.

You can

Put a soft color on the

You can brighten things up.

I love digital cameras.

They are very sympathetic to mistakes.

We were so glad and blessed to have Brother Dave and Sister Pat

with us last week-end.

We haven't seen them for years.

We've been friends with them since our

Pleasant Valley Baptist Church

days.

Nothing like seeing old friends walk up the sidewalk

to your front door.

Brother Dave is a true missionary,

he loves what he does.

Sister Pat is right there beside him.

She is a cancer survivor.

She is a REAL letter writer.

She gave me all of her used school books.

I loved getting them from her.

Not because they were free, but because

she wanted ME

to have them.

She plays the trumpet and always does a special.

Brother Dave is a fixer-upper.

He builds things and tinkers.

They love the Lord and want to see lost souls

in Mexico come to the Truth.

Brother Dave was part of my husband's ordination

at Pleasant Valley.

May the Lord continue to bless their ministry.....

and keep them safe.

Piddling

Just a Mo-Thursday

Yes, I always start with a cup of coffee. I get up at six, James goes to work at 6:15.....gets home around 7:30.

I read my Bible in the morning and think about what I need to do for the day. I usually have a list so I don't forget things. Right now, my list should say: don't EAT.

When it's chilly in the house I like to have a candle lit. This one didn't last very long. I tend to like brown candles! Heather got me one for Christmas, it's *very* brown.

I turned on some music, it's so nice to be able to listen to our old albums........you just wait! One of these days I'm going to figure out how to *convert* albums to cd's.

I got this women's shirt for a song at a thrift store..........it was a very small, medium....so I decided to make a bag out of it.

When old candles burn to the bottom and go out, I melt the remaining wax and put it in this cup.....it makes the house smell good, but it's not the same thing as a candle.

I wrote out a list for the girls.....just a few things. Donut LOVES to eat greens so I remind Lydia to get her some every morning. Kimberly was supposed to dust the piano.

I did a load of clothes.........when I was doing all the kids in home-school, I would find myself starting a load of clothes instead of doing SCHOOL. Now it doesn't matter. I am conducting a test on fabric softener. Right now, they're both winning for different reasons.

I got a package ready to take to the post office. I am sending a bunny bag to a fellow rabbit lover.

Time to put up the Christmas dishes. Time to NOT eat any more Christmas anything.

Today (Thursday), I learned that Snoopy had a sister named Molly. All these years I have loved Snoopy and didn't know that. Olivia started calling me Molly years ago. Sometimes Molly turns in to Molly Moo Cow, but that's OK. It's a term of endearment, even the cow part.

On my way out to the garden to place the blue piggy bank somewhere.....I took a picture of guilty Jolly. The cats are not supposed to sleep on the truck. OR walk on the windshield. The cats do not listen.

So, now the blue piggy bank has a new home. The 24 Hour Garden. If anybunny wants to drive by and put pennies or silver things in it, that's fine.

Just some garden shots. I love the gardens this time of year and it makes me want the weather to not get FREEZY because I lose a lot when it does.

Almost ten......almost 70 in the house.

I worked on the bag off and on all day. Since I had never cut up a button up shirt, it took a little longer.

I think this was my breakfast.

I left at 11:30 to have a Bible Study with a sweet lady that just recently got saved.

On my way home, I stopped at a thrift store. Got the vintage fabric, 3 old pillow-cases and 1 kitchen towel....all for a dime each. I was tickled.

I watched *Say Yes To the Dress* in the afternoon and got supper ready for James. I made him two soft tacos...with cilantro from my gardens.

I had a bowl of oatmeal in the late afternoon. It is heart healthy and I've always liked it. Do YOU like oatmeal? oatymilly?

Oh yes, these came in the morning, but I forgot to take a picture of them until the afternoon. I got them off of e-bay. I love Mary Jane slip on low heel size 9 buy it now DUCK shoes.

The coloring in the picture is a little off.....but this is the top of the bag all finished.

Listened to Evie, front and back.

Crocheted while we watched a little TV.............

I downloaded Picasa 3.9 onto my computer. If you use Picasa and haven't done this yet, DO IT. They added lots of different things and some are really fun.

This would be my snack for the day.

I go to bed early, because I get up early.

Earthly speaking, I had a wonderful day yesterday. It started just like any normal day, good coffee. I finished the book of Esther, I enjoy that story and now understand the Feast of Purim better.

I wore my very favorite outfit (dark gray skirt, red top, plaid snap shirt) and put on a little Sweet Honesty perfume....thanks Avon.

The year is coming to an end and I'm getting closer to finishing my Bible reading. I fixed up a new plan for next year, this year I will read a systematic chart.....starting with Genesis, ending with Revelation.

James gave me the printer he isn't using any more. I haven't had a printer for years, it will really be nice to print off Hobby Lobby coupons and Sunday School papers.

While I was getting an area ready for the printer I found a little book on friendship.....I hope to fix it up for a friend with a January birthday.

The little birthday book I hope to fix up needed pictures.....Walgreen's had 25 free prints. All you needed was the code.....now that was fun!

I fixed up a new cup for my pens and pencils..........it's a huge Starbuck's cup that is too big to drink coffee from. Nobody can lift it if it's full.....of HOT coffee.

I watched a Martha Stewart holiday show.....we record shows and watch them later.....it was the one where her audience was asked to wear a Christmas Sweater.....even ones from the 80's.

James was in the office most of the day, we didn't have anywhere to go or anything to do. We watched Restaurant Impossible together and ate ham sandwiches. I also listened to American Pickers and a show on lawmen in Fairbanks, Alaska.

I had two candles burning, a poinsettia in the front room and a pumpkin one in the kitchen. The house smelled warm and yummy all day.

I had chicken and dumplings for lunch.....it's one of my most favorite food. I can't choose it to be my birthday meal cause it just doesn't sound good in July! I also had a piece of the oatmeal pie nobunny ate for the holidays. It wept and wasn't beautiful........but it was good.

I picked a hand-ful of 4 O'clock seeds and put them in the kitchen window sill to save for the back yard this Spring.

I play Angry Birds.......and I couldn't get past a level........and I finally did it!

My mom from Kansas called and we had a nice visit. I love to talk with her on the phone.

I played Evie, one of my old albums, on my new record player. Never the Same Again......I enjoyed hearing all the songs again. Good memories of when I first got saved.

I got a few texts from our Kelly friends as they traveled North......the HUGE Buc-ees in Madisonville.........and Collins Street Bakery, the place we got our fruitcake.

The girls were at somebunny's house playing games........so I knew they were having a good day, too.

I sewed Kimberly's Christmas cupcake fabric into a bag....with ric-rac and a pocket. And a long strap.

The weather was abbba-sa-loot-lee beautiful! Chilly, blue skies, yellow leaves a fluttering in the breeze.

I painted my toe-nails and went to bed with Burt's Bees milk and honey lotion on my hands.

I think I am going to enjoy these.
I love living in a place that sells flip-flops right next to winter boots.

I full plan to make this beautiful bunny fabric into a bag. A shoe bag. I always need summpin to put my shoes in when we go places. I had what I thought was a 40% off coupon today for Hobby Lobby......didn't discover it was not valid until after the fabric was cut. Oh well. It was only $4.00. I can't wait!

If you like pistachios, say so. Did you know they dye them red to hide imperfections? I'd rather see the imperfections than have the dye on my fingers for three days. I love them.

Keebler used to make a pretzel that was buttery in the regular pretzel shape like this. They were really good. A little elf told them I liked them, so they stopped making them. Or so it seems.
These are good, too. I like a pretzel with a crunch and big chunks of salt.

O.K., O.K., I realize this is the WORST possible form to buy tapioca in, but I like it. I prefer some home-made.....but if I did that it wouldn't be low-fat and there would be a HUGE bowl of it sitting in the fridge calling my name. These little single servings are much safer for me. Do YOU like tapioca?

This pepper is to be added to the chili I'm making for the our all day services this coming Sunday. It's always laughable to see a sign, a recipe or a statement somewhere stating *THEIR* product is best. The BEST cup of coffee. The BEST mattress. The BEST value. Well, I have a recipe for the BEST chili you will ever eat. I need it......my polls are waaaaay down when it comes to chili.....

Well, how many of you are a proud owner of a Keurig coffee machine? You know, the one that fixes you a perfect cup of coffee in less time than it takes you to curl your bangs?
I had a really good coupon for this coffee and it was on sale. I also liked the name of it. *Foglifter* Who doesn't need the fog lifted in the morning?

I can barely stand to eat plain CHEEZ-ITs.......they're so orange or summpin? I like the flavored ones about twice a year. They're especially good if you have something to SCOOP. Do you like them? love them? avoid them?

I'm going to be much more careful about taking bike rides in the alley......I can't afford to buy many of these. It was $4.96. I am SO glad they didn't cost that much when all the kids were little....they used to cost just enough to cause pain, but not so much we couldn't buy them 3 times a month for each bike.

We have a mouse or a rat. SOMETHING keeps chewing holes in the cat food bags and leaving little messes. I just need to figure out where to put this so the mouse/rat will sniff it out, but where Bunny will NOT.

I eat about two of these a year. NOT two boxes!! I wonder who invented them and if their family members drive Hummers and shop at Macy's? It was a very good idea.....I guess. What do you think?

Kroger had LOTS and LOTS of pretty flowers marked down today. Purple isn't very holiday-ish....but they were the ones that said *buy me!* I read a quote this morning one somebunny's blog about always having something pretty to look at in your home. This was my effort for the day.

I like our Dollar Tree. Everything is a dollar. It is kind of comforting to know that ANYTHING you pick up in there is ONE dollar. Some things aren't worth the package they are sold in, I think some things are under priced, so it all kind of works out. The holiday paper was 50cents each.......there is one thing I never want to have to do and that is buy paper on December 20th at FULL price. I like to pick out paper that could be used for other things....how did I do?

I have wanted a mat like this for years. We earned some Kohl's cash.....I shopped around yesterday for summpin to buy, but the line to check-out was clear to the shoes, so I decided to wait until today to buy summpin. I'm glad I waited. Yesterday I was going to buy a spatula, today I picked out this rug. 75% off made it $5.99. Come wipe your feet on our new rug and have a piece of oatmeal pie.

this is the most BLUE purse in the world. no doubt. you will not see a more blue purse anywhere. it's not a fossil or a coach.....but I love it.

Woops. Would you look at that? I bought the blue purse yesterday and this one today. Can you believe the same person likes both of them? Just so you will all know, when I get new purses, I get rid of old ones. I have them in a drawer that will only hold so many. I do NOT have a rented pod for my purses.

These are the cans that will make the BEST CHILI you have ever eaten. I sure hope it works. I'd like to go out of 2011 with a bang.

I saw huge flocks of birds like this all the time over the fields of grain.

Since there are no fields of grain down here,

I don't see it too often.

I love the way the birds fly together and change directions,

all in one beautiful movement,

it resembles a school of fish in the ocean.

Jolly used to be an inside cat. She would perch herself on a windowsill and look outside at the birds and the trees......she would sit by the opened front door and stare out the screen. She acted like she wanted to be free. So, now she's an outside cat, unless she can GET IN.

I was just walking through the front-room the other day, and there she was, comfortable a ever on the back of our new love-seat atop an afghan from my Granny. She wanted out, now she wants in. Too bad.

I like outside cats better than inside cats and I like our cats better than the neighbor cats, but I'd like the neighbor cats the best if THEY caught our mice and we didn't HAVE any outside cats.

Given the chance, Jolly would be Queen. If somebunny says A CAT GOT IN THE HOUSE....we all know who it is. She used to run to our back bedroom and get under our mattress where nobunny could reach her. (not even with a STICK) She thought it was really cute. Well, we got a new bed and she can't pull that trick anymore. Besides, all I have to do now is klunk two cans together in the door-way and she thinks it's time to eat. Out she will come from her hiding place.

I think I was being laughed at by a cat. What do you think? Who do you think got the last laugh?

I bought a can of cinnamon roll biscuits.

You know, the ones with the little thing of frosting at the end.

I got my waffle-maker out and decided to see if it would work.....

It did.

It was pretty simple.

Just stick the biscuits on the iron, close, waffle them.....

Spread frosting on each one.....

then wish you would have bought two

cans instead.

I think I can see myself taking this camping.

Do this test........if there is something bothering you, you've been *abused*, somebody did you wrong, you're full of fear about something..... purpose yourself to THINK about it all day. Make a pact with yourself to harbor it in your heart. Don't let any fleeting thought about your trouble get past you, make sure you remember it all day long and maybe even write down how angry/scared/bitter/ you are about this *something*.

If you've been abused, hate the abuser and have NO forgiving thoughts about it.
If you have been overlooked or teased, have full liberty to hash it out in your mind over and over again. This would be a good time to make a phone-call, a cutting text? maybe even a spite filled letter. Be sure to send it, for it will surely make you feel better.
If you have been offended, re-live the offense as often as you can. Maybe you have written it down somewhere, this would be a GOOD time to look it over in case you forgot some very important details.
THINK THINK THINK about it.

If you are afraid of something, imagine the worse thing that could possibly happen.
If you have aught against somebunny, make sure to think about it and even make statements about fighting it until the day you die.
Don't miss anybody or occasion in this exercise. You know LOTS of people, make sure to include them in your rage.
Just be sure for a whole day to not let anything come into your mind that would make you appear to TRY to be thinking on things above.
Think on things below, dark things. Scary and ugly things. Mean things.
Maybe even start a club, or a website so others can share in your misery and you in theirs. You can share problems and drag each other down.

What do you think you will feel like in the evening after a day of liberty to think on the rotten? What if you did this for a week? For a month? How about a couple of years?

Well, all of my bright readers can see this is a silly thing to do.
To think about BAD things on purpose.
(did you know that YOU have control over what you want to think on? that it is totally up to YOU what you do with your thought life?....so really, when you do think about the *ugly*, it IS on purpose)

I'm thinking that giving yourself permission to be full of rage or fear about something.....is NOT submitting yourself to God OR resisting the devil.
But Wait!
Just how much CAN we think on those things that bring pain and cause bitterness? How long can we ponder them until it starts to change the way we think and live? Those thoughts are going to come to mind.....can we keep them there for a little while?
And be just a little angry? fretful? sour? bitter? vexed?
If I stopped letting those things take residence in my head, then I MIGHT just *GET OVER IT*, and I really don't want to. I want to be angry. I want to whine and complain about my abused life, how others have treated me, how wronged I have been. It's a good attention getter. (It's not that we can't forget, it's that we will NOT.)

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

So....I'll ask again, how much time should we allow ourselves to think on the things that cause us to fret and turn sour? There's nothing like a sour Christian that can't just get on with their life....
Hi, I'm _________, I've been abused, I'm bitter and here is a website you can visit and read all about it. That's who I am. I choose to drag that title around with me...you cannot expect me to act right because of what I've been through. I have lots of baggage and unbelief that the Lord cannot deliver me from.

I'm thinking we should take those things to the Lord and leave them there. EVERY time those things that are NOT lovely come into our mind, we can quote a verse, we can pray and ask God to help us think on good things, we can sing a song of praise..........or we can welcome the thoughts and let them ruin our minutes, our days, our weeks, our years. If you need counsel, then get it. If you need to think out a plan according to God's word, do some studying.

A life full of blame and anger is no way to live. You are saying the Lord is not powerful enough to help you get over those things that hurt. We should not live as if we cannot be lifted above these things by the God that filled the sky with stars.....and calleth them all by their names. A defeated life says the Lord cannot help me. I cannot rise above. The Lord is not able.

Psalm 28:7 The LORD [is] my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Just recently, my mom had a biopsy on her lungs. It took about a week to get the results. I DID think about it, but mostly I prayed for her. Those aren't easy times and it seems like there is nothing to think about except the negative. Well. That's not true. It is always uplifting to be thankful. Yes, we must think about our problems and fears so we can sort things out in our mind.....just don't let those things take you to bitterness or fear.

By asking the Lord to help me think on things above instead of painful things...........I can say that He IS able to help, to give strength in time of need. I don't have to be defeated and carry around the things that happened in the past. I can be free from those things and know that God will help me tomorrow, too.

Those of you that know me, know that my life hasn't been a bed of roses..... the nights I haven't slept, the days I've been upset, the times I have been filled with fear and dread, are the times I have NOT let the God of the universe help me.

********I want everybody to understand that REAL abuse is a REAL thing. A very sad thing has come about because of people shouting *abuse*.....REAL abuse is being lost in the mix. Wives physically abused by their husbands, thus making them truly battered.....children being neglected.....sexual abuse.....these are the truly horrible things. My heart goes out to those that have had to live through these things.......

Somebody can have their feelings hurt, have somebody in authority make a decision they don't like, be offended, have anger stirred in their heart about a difference in opinion.......and they too will cry ABUSE.******

#1.......I may not have a *book* that has all of our activities recorded these past 30 some years, but I have the things I need to remember in my heart and those things pop up every once in a while and make me smile. (like the morning Mrs. A. used the top of our coffee filter holder for a cereal bowl) !!
I cannot undo this or make it right,I feel it's a little late to start a book, so I should just learn to enjoy the good and forget the bad. MAKE good memories today.

#2......There ARE school records.....they're just not in the same place. I shouldn't beat myself up over it. We had wonderful days of school.........I maybe wasn't a great math teacher.....(actually, no maybe about it)....but all of my kids can write and speak well. That was my goal. I surely cannot gather up all of the records and *make* that elusive notebook.........I should just be thankful that I could home-school.

#3.........Ahhhh, glorious pictures. I CAN fix this. But I prolly won't......I don't think I'm all that concerned about it. When we really want to do summpin, we DO it, we don't talk about it for 4 years. The pictures are safe, they're not in the way, anybunny can look at them any time they want.

#4................I have been saved for over 30 years. I have read through the Bible in a year only ONE time. I surely should have been doing it all along.
I have time.
We have time.
You have time.
We do what we want, we fix things so we can. We fix things all the time so we will HAVE time to do what we want.....we can't use the TIME thing with the Lord.......because HE knows what we do with our time.
If it wasn't bad enough with television and movies and just plain old being lazy, now we have: Twitter/Facebook/games/e-mail/INTERNET/e-bay/Amazon/PICASA/ GOOOOOOOGLE.............if we spend any time at all doing these things, that is proof that we *had* time to read our Bibles.

It is kind of a Sunday School Kindergarten thing. We can read Psalm 119 and see what God's Word should be to us...........yet not read that which is GOOD for us. ABC, 123, Read Your Bible.
I always think about what I teach my Sunday School girls, which is often on a 4 year old level.....
we sing: Thy Word I Am Hiding Down Deep In My Heart..........but do I?
Am I a learned Christian? Can I find Scripture to back up what I believe about doctrine? Do I know where to go for answers, comfort, direction and help? Do I know stories and their details?
Just think, if I had been, all along, reading my Bible through every year, I might know the difference between Elijah and Elisha...........
We celebrated the 400th birthday of the KJV this year in our church......my husband has taught on it all year........where it came from, why we ONLY use the KJV.....and he gave us all a 365 day plan to read through our Bible. Now wouldn't it be silly to say, if he had done this all along, that I would have? That's like saying if there were visitation nights put on the church calendar, then I would visit...........
I don't blame anybunny except myself for not doing this.

I can't undo the years not reading my Bible like I should, but this is something I CAN start doing. It's never too late to start doing right.

I LOVE this verse......it tells us that God's Word can take care of ANYTHING in our life that we go through. It makes us wise unto salvation..........so we may be throughly furnished!

OK, this has to do with pictures. Hundreds and hundreds of them. Just to put it plainly, I wish all of our pictures were in long boxes with lids. All the pictures would be dated on the back and it wouldn't make any difference where they were......just keep them IN a box.
I have a suitcase full of random pictures that aren't in books. Where in the world did they all come from? Can you throw away pictures? (sara, do NOT answer)
You know what is really aggravating? Those old picture books with the cellophane wrapping type pages....kind of sticky, kind of electrified or something......well, they turn yellow and very unpleasant.
I'm just telling everybunny now, if we have to flee to the middle of the state because a hurricane is in the Gulf, there is a GREAT chance that not many pictures are going to come along with us.
I've got my pictures tamed, they are all in ONE old suitcase and ONE cabinet. They are going to stay just like they are until I have a day that I have NOTHING else to do but weed out and date and file and fix. But first, I will buy some long boxes. I am not going to *scrapbook* any pictures........I might as well face it. You that enjoy scrap-booking, have a great time. Without me.
I don't want to be a slave to pictures, I want to be able to enjoy them......
So, tell me about your pictures. Are they all standing at attention in beautiful black velvet books with ribbon ties? Are they in order? Do you have piles of pictures in different places that you are going to *fix up real nice* some day? Do you have envelopes with pictures in them waiting to be put in books you bought three years ago?
OR, are all your pictures, dated...........and in long boxes with lids?

*edited to add* What has digital pictures done to your habits of old? Do you still print pictures, REAL pictures, or do you have a nice program on your computer for them?

We have six kids. They all went to school for 13 years each. I had a few that started school a year after a brother or sister graduated......I found myself going a lot of different directions. Sometimes circles.

I always enjoyed it. We had bad days, but most were good. We have a conviction, not a preference about how children should be schooled, so there was never a question about whether or not we would home-school. Because of the monstrous amount of time, energy, thought, planning, and work that went into it......I evidently wasn't looking towards the day that they would all be graduated and gone....and maybe just maybe I would like to have ALL their records in ONE notebook to look back on.

I am sentimental about some things, I like to look back on SOME things, keep a few reminders and save a few papers that will take me back to when I couldn't leave sharp things on the cabinet! Now we can leave scissors, knives, GUM and candles in glass containers anywhere we want. Now it is quiet in the house.

I look at my kids now and try to think back to when we were immersed in school, the whole household was geared for it. Now we only have one in school and things are pretty different. Lots happened with Sara and Lydia and everybody in between.

So, the #2 thing I wish I had done is keep ALL of the school records of each child in ONE place.
As each child finished their last year, I had a box I had been keeping for them all through their schooling. From coloring the A-A-A apple in Unit 0, to their last Saxon math book. The box included the record for each year. Because I am a random person, I kept records different each year. Sometimes they would be very involved and sometimes not. I would use a little date stamp, graph paper, report cards, regular notebook paper, pens, pencils, magic markers,calendars, colored pencils, note cards, RED pens and who knows what else? Each child has their *box* of school. Except for Lydia. She is still attending McEntire Institute for Higher Learning.

I am keeping the books from Rod and Staff that each of the kids learned to read with. They all know how to read well..........I guess that I should smile at that proof and just go on......

Keeping all the records in one place instead of going into the *box* each year would have helped me to know what to buy (or not buy) for the other kids when they got to a certain grade. We didn't stick to one publisher.....we used very random books: Nutrition for Dummies, Red Cross First Aid, doctrinal books from Book Heaven, leftover books from a missionary family, Texas Wildflowers, George Washington copy book, Finding Favor With God and Man, lawn care and landscaping, Menu Math, Reader's Digest plumbing, very old public school hard-back English books, Dover coloring books and I made up a list of *Most Misspelled Words*, compliments of my own children. If we had ONLY done A-Beka, then thinking back would be pretty much just one thought. A-Beka.

I wouldn't want my one dream *record book* to see who did the most or who got the best grades, but to have a memory that I can look at and hold. Now that our kids are grown up and mostly gone I think it would be nice to see the list of books they read when they were little, what time we started school in 92, what did I use for Bible for four kids and what did I buy at the home-school book fair?

There will be no pictures with this blog post because there ARE no pictures.

There are four things I wish I had been doing all along.

Three of them I can't change, and one of them I can.

1. I wish I had kept a journal of *happenings* , a family history of holidays, birthdays,

revivals, parties, trips, vacations, weddings, salvation/baptism,

moving into different houses,

guests in our homes for different occasions,

addresses, phone numbers, missionaries that stayed with us, cars and their cost,

jobs and wages, grocery $$ I've gotten and big ticket items.

It would be SO fun to look back on almost 30 years of what we've all done together.

We'd know just where we spend our holidays and who we shared those days with....
and what we all got each other!
There was a time that our front-room looked like Toys-R-Us.
Where did we spend our first Christmas?
I can remember our last Christmas, but not our first!
What did we do on all the July 4th's in our life?

We'd know just what happened for each birthday of our children and what they *got* that year. 18X6= 108......that would be a lot of information, but I don't think we'd tire of reading about what our children were doing on their special day!

We could look back over all the men we've heard preach revivals and where.

I do remember Brother Disney from Fayetville, Arkansas (Mission Blvd. Baptist Church) preached at Pleasant Valley one year....and he said:

"Remember who you are and what you are about."

I've never forgotten that, but I don't know what year it was?

We've had parties and get-togethers for different reasons.

I know we threw a hum-dinger of a Christmas party a few years back.

I've got pictures, but don't remember what *year* it was.

And TRIPS. How about knowing the dates of when we would drive to Kansas to see my parents? And how much gas was? And if we ate somewhere on the way.

We used to come to Freeport from Dallas to visit family, now we LIVE here!

Vacations. Wow. Wish I had record of all the places we've been!

We've been to Colorado and all the way to New York, and lots of state parks in between!

Can I remember the weddings we've attended?

No.

I just know now that people are married.

I've got record on old calenders that have record of the kids getting saved and baptized, and I'm sure the church has record of the baptisms, but I'd still like to have
it in writing in a neat little book.

We've lived in a few places since we've been married.

I know the first place was on MONMOUTH.

That's kind of hard to forget!

But when did we move from there to Rolling Meadows, the place Sara was born?

We've had guests that I wish I could remember....... fun times, eating, playing games.

I remember one time we had PaPa and Granny over just to listen to a new

Inspirations tape /cd? that we got. Now was it a tape or cd?

What have our addresses and telephone numbers been?

We turned off the house phone a couple months back.

We had that number almost 30 years, and now it's gone.

This one really hurts....we've had SO many missionaries stay with us!!

I do wish we would have kept track of them and had them sign a *guest book* or something. We enjoyed so many of them.

The Michael Lea family came for a short time when our kids were little. They were here long enough for one of our daughters to SOAK their daughter at the bathroom sink.

When they left, he forgot his jacket. Or so he said.

They just wanted to come back!

Tammy and her kids, I with mine, went to a parade with each other while
the guys stayed home and talked Bible.

Now, when was that?

So, what about our cars? Maybe we've had more than the average bear because when we got them they were usually already quite worn out and tired.

I just know I loved our Dodge Ram Van. I still do.

If somebunny would put an engine in it, I'd take it back and drive it everywhere I went.

Especially to the beach.

I know we sold a car to pay for Sara to be born......

Where all has my husband worked?

I guess that wouldn't be too hard to remember.

But it would be nice to have it written down.

You know how it is.....somebunny says it was 1992....NO, it was 93.

Well, it was 92 I'm sure.

The money I get for groceries has changed drastically over the years.

2 kids, 4 kids, 6 kids............4 kids, 2 kids.

Right now we're at 2 kids.

It's the first time I've ever bought BUTTER for everything instead of margarine.

Of COURSE butter is better, but butter costs more.

My husband has ALWAYS made a point to get me regular grocery money.

It may have been small, but it could be counted on, and that helped.

I guess it would be fun to know the big ticket items we've bought.

Even the hot water heater.

Furniture, the freezer that potties on the floor about every three days.

Lawn-mowers. (great boxes from lawn-mowers!)

Well, that's number one.

I know that these things all pass and in eternity they won't be important, but I still think it would be fun to *read all about it.*

You know how you can set your phone to predictive text? I don't use it on my phone because I like to spell words the way I want to at different times.
Sometimes I say just plain meow. Other times I need MEOOOOOOW.
I use SWYPE.......thinking about it, I'd rather have a predictive text day and not a SWYPE day.
So here goes......this is what I predict I will do today:
I am going to take Kimberly to work....it is raining and she usually walks to the bus, but this morning it would be quite unpleasant. While I'm on the side of town dodging rain-drops, I will go to Hobby Lobby and return a crochet hook that catches on my thread. NOT a good thing. I will also sachet to the mall and get my glasses adjusted and hopefully find a new top at Palais Royal. Since I'm 50+, I get 15% off on Tuesdays.
On the way home I'd like to stop at Hospice thrift store. I love that place.
When we get home I am going to cut out a little dress and two capes. Grandchildren presents. Now that I have my sewing room all fixed up, I am terribly excited to be in there looking and thinking and planning and dreaming.
There is a surprise in store for somebunny this afternoon.....I won't say much about it......because the information could fall into the wrong hands.
We will be preparing to go to an Independent Baptist Church in Texas City this evening. It will be their special Thanksgiving service, we went last year........is good to see old friends. Well, they're not old, but they are friends.
After that, we will eat at Olive Garden then have an hour ride home. We will probably listen to our railroad songs CD.
So, there you have it. A predictive blog post.

Autumn Lettuce

Autumn in the dining room

Our dining room is always decorated in Autumn, no matter what time of year it is. I love the season and the decorations that go with it. The paneling and dark tile in the dining room make for a good Autumn scene.

Because of the places I tend to shop, I find Autumn decorations all year long. I hate to pass up the ones I love. One of them being this little Leaf Lady.

My dad gave me the little brass pots and I got the little green plates from my favorite thrift store. The brass pots fit inside each other and make a crooked stack. I might pile things up, but I don't enjoy crooked.

I've always like the four seasons in art, especially trees. I was tickled when I found these little glass plates.

Our next door neighbor gave this to me. It's just a cute little pot. It's empty for right now.

......I find a product I really enjoy......the stores I go to, stop selling it. IF you can find some of this soap SOMEWHERE, get a bar. I chose basil because it just smells so fresh and lovely.....I think two other choices are lavender or lemon. I took the bar out of the package and the room smelled like.....well......BASIL! I can't find it at Wal-mart anymore, but I imagine Super H.E.B. in Pearland has it....or maybe we will just go back to Central Market.

I think I paid a dime for this little book on the 23 Psalm. I love to read about shepherds and their sheep.

These are the books that I am interested in right now. A Book About A Thousand Things is taking a little time to read since it seems like I always have A THOUSAND things to do........and why I like to read about Craftsman Homes I'll never know....I just do. I always have to have a Gladys Taber book nearby the bed. She puts me to sleep, not that she is boring, but her writing is just kind of matter-of-fact sloooooow.

These are the books that will just have to wait. What are YOU reading these days? Can you read more than one book at a time?

I would love for my mom to be able to see how this little plant is doing. She calls them *Ice Plants*. She says they are the last to freeze..........she has them planted in a long cow feeder...up off of the ground. Their yard is FILLED with mole-holes.......they will ruin anything nice that she puts in the ground, but they can't touch her Moss Rose, Hen and Chicks and Ice Plant in the cow feeder. She gave me some of this a few years back and I put it in water when I got home, hoping it would make some roots. The only thing that happened is the plant got mooshy and kind of expired. This year in September, I brought some home and just stuck it in the dirt....and look at how happy it is! It's nice to get flowers from seeds and the store, but it's MUCH nicer to get them from somebunny you love.

All Fixed Up

Well, I got the doilies all fixed up in their rightful home in the *Quilt Closet*. Before I put the doilies up, I dusted. When I dusted I was reminded how this quilt closet was put together. Part of the wood is from ammunition boxes. We paid $5 for it at a sale when we lived in Mesquite, Texas. It has housed a lot of different things.

When the doilies and things were in a drawer, it made it really hard to see what I would like to pick and use. This is really nice because I can see all of them. I tried to pile them together in * like kind*.

All of our cd's fit nicely into this little drawer. Are we the only ones that have empty cd cases? now where did those cd's GO????? Who has them and wonders where the case is?

Got me a new (old) rocking chair, too. Covered it with a pillow sham. It looks just right, beside the quilt closet.

Six kids, holidays, friends, missionaries, visiting preachers, Sunday afternoon dinner, pizza, *the works*, cars, ponies, school books, birthdays........

The top of it hung onto the furry stuff on the backside of plastic table-cloths. Nice? Not.
Well, the new one is all slick and that won't happen again.

I'm from a little dirt road town called Seward. My parents bought a house from my dad's sister after their moved off to California. Before my cousins left....they named a street----Heaven. I loved to walk down that street....and play. There were mulberry trees, lilac bushes, rocks to find, anthills to step on, cottonwood trees to look at......for a pretty long stretch there were no houses...only a sort of forest and a pond. The pond would freeze over in the winter and we would play. and play. and play. I don't know why they named that street Heaven....as a little kid I sure enjoyed it.
I have learned a few things since then. It was NOT really heaven......and there is a hell.

Old Things

As you all know by now, I prefer old things over new things. This glass knob is in the house I lived in for a short while as a little girl. I wonder if I could ever even reach it?

One of my favorite colors is silver. Silver on white is best.

Remember old furnaces on the floor? If your shoe had something on it and it dropped into the grate....you could smell it burning for a while....or if you dropped a color down the same grate. Now how fun was that to smell a burning crayon all day long? I remember standing on a furnace like this and having little grate melty marks on the bottoms of my shoes.

OK, if somebunny wants to buy me a new quilt for my bed, I'll use it, but I'd rather have an old one.

This is the gate to the city cemetery...........look at how somebunny put an old door-handle on it. I wonder if it was my dad. Looks like something he would do.

Dad had this tape in his little workshop. He's got stuff like this everywhere.......it's always fun to look.
He also collects pencils,,,,,bullet pencils?

This is our old candy dish. I don't ever remember there being candy in it.......but I do remember it making a terrible KLANK when you messed with the lid!

This was in an antique store....but I remember having one as a kid. Now that I look at it, it's rather scary.

If this quilt would talk,,,,,I would listen. The diamond fabric is corduroy....it's very soft. I know I had something made out of this. I wish I could remember.

This is just a picture out of an old catalog. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these old strollers. Umbrella strollers are NO fun. My parents bought our first daughter one.....it had the little sun hood and it was yellow. We wore it to a frazzle.

I was a teen-ager in the 70's. I had a pair of shoes like this only they were a denim color. These aren't the same shoe as the ones girls would wear with *poodle* skirts. I loved mine.

This was the announcement for when my mom was born. Inside my Granma filled in the information on the lines...... and at the bottom she put this: "She looks like me!"

This is my Grandparent's home.........I guess this is what it looked like when they bought it. I'm thinking this is the picture the realtor used.........they sure improved the place and made it a nice home. We drove by it a couple times. It was sad. There used to always be a Cadillac in the driveway, the grass was nice and green and mowed, granma had grape hyacinths growing by the sidewalk, they had a little brick sidewalk going to the garage....a tiny garden and of course a clothes line.

I deserved this. I saw a nickel on the ledge of a window on a busy shopping street in Galveston....tried to pick it up and found out that it was glued to the wood.
I remember my dad used to nail or screw little cars and trucks to fence posts.....and little boys would just have to look.......and not play.

Crafty?

I love to crochet. I remember my Great Aunt Freda would sew two wash cloths together then crochet around them and make a pillow. I was brought up in a world of pillows.....not ones you buy from a store though. Seems like everything we owned was crocheted around the edges or hemmed by my Granma, or made by my Granny.

Young married girls are bored and don't *enjoy* being a *keeper* of the home. I think these things help. Projects. SOMETHING to do. Something to start and something to finish. Make things to give away........for presents........to decorate their own home.

We will all like different things........just do SOMETHING.

I would like to can/jar something. I'm going to look in to Candied Jalapenos.

Autumn Party

Autumnal Gardens

I planted some radish seeds........this wire is to keep our cats and neighborhood cats from using my lovely little gardens as a litter box. It is working quite well. Too bad I haven't applied FENCE in the past years.

These flamingos are a present from my sister in Kansas. I was thrilled. I've done lots of yard art....but never had the USUAL thing everybunny expects.

Then look at what popped up yesterday!

I can water every single day with the hose and these never pop up. If it rains, they will come out of the ground just a blooming. I do not understand that.

When I put the flamingo here, the flower was still fixing to pop and surprise.

The radish plants are growing nicely.......they are usually a good seed for little kids to grow.
There is nothing better than a radish out of your own garden.

Kansas trip

This is the Aunt that took me to Kansas.......we had loads of fun coming and going. It is a good time we have getting to know each other better...........we are family and friend to each other.

Nobody can grow Hen and Chicks like my mom can. She doesn't grow so many things now like she used to. Everything is heavy for her now..........it is nice to have a mom that likes flowers and plants.

Last year my sister and I tried to visit the *house* where we used to live as very young children. It is the first house I can remember living in........I guess I was 7 something when we moved to Colorado. Well, my sister didn't get to see the house this time, but my mother, my aunt and I did. The owner of the house was extremely gracious about everything. She let my mom look over the records/papers from when the house was built to when she bought it. My parents were renting to buy the house, but it didn't work out.....The tile you see above was in the kitchen. We're pretty sure it is the stuff we lived on! I am always drawn to tile like this and wanted it for my new kitchen. I like the *fleck* look.

This is the wallpaper on the kitchen wall. *sigh*......if those walls could talk.

There was a little room off the kitchen which was the pantry. I don't remember this room.......but I am attracted also to the bead board like this door is made out of. My kitchen walls are paneled with it and painted yellow. Mom said that little room was always really hot.

The linoleum is worn to a frazzle.......and I still LOVE it. Just think, my little bare feet walked across these floors. I'd roll out some linoleum on our dining room floor just like this if it were available.

OK, the woman that owns the house now is NOT Martha Stewart. The hole you see here is where my mom put a rod to hang clothes on as she ironed.

The woman said she was going to take the floor furnace out and put in something modern. An old floor furnace grate is GREAT to use outside as a sort of foot scraper. Sort of like a metal rug.

This used to be a beautiful door. Mom remembers it well. It got painted red. I'm not a fan of red doors, but I am a fan of OLD doors.

This is a closet in one of the bedrooms. The Aunt that took me to Kansas with her used to babysit us all the time in this very house. She told us there was a doorknob at the end of this closet and if you went through the door, you would find yourself in another world. I sort of wanted to go to the end of the closet to see if I could find that door knob......but no....that was then, this is now.

This porch used to have a roof and pillars. Now it is sinking in and in danger of being ripped out and being replaced with something new. (and horrible)
