Avocado

So, this is what a newly formed avocado looks like.  Right now, they are about the size of a pencil eraser.

The tree is very tall and has lots of new fruit.......I hope they don't get blown away during hurricane season.
Then we will have to go to TIMBUKTU to get them. Or Smithereens.

The wild sunflower is racing with the avocado tree.......the tree will win because as soon as I can get to the back yard to do some work, the sunflowers are history.

Aren't the new little fruits lovely?

The season has to work out JUST right, or there is no fruit.  If the leaves get frost-bit/frozen in the winter, they will fall off.  Then in the Spring when the tree should be putting on fruit, instead it has to make leaves.
This year, so far, so good.  I planted this from a seed mainly on a whim.  Now it's almost 20 feet tall.  I read that they really should be made into a bush instead of a tall tree.  I'll have to work on that......

I LOVE avocados! How neat that you planted it from a seed, how long ago was that?

fifteen years ago? I planted the seed in a huge tractor tire that was by a fence. We tore the fence down and needed to get rid of the huge tire....so we chopped around on it and the tree and almost cut the tree down. We are very glad we didn't. We are in the process of getting a very windy cold front, I hope it doesn't blow things off of the tree.

My Favorite Child

I wish I had all the pictures I wanted, to go with this blog post........because I know a *picture paints a thousand words*, but for a large part of our family's life, old fashion cameras and old fashion pictures were being used.  So, many of the pictures that would help paint this post are somewhere in boxes and books.  It would take a month of Sundays to find them all so  I will just have to count on your imagination and my memory! FAVORITE: most liked, preferred above all others Sara, you were my favorite.  You were our first baby and we were so excited for you.  Your hair was perfect for me to learn how to braid and you always were very still for me.  You were the first little girl I got to dress up and put lacy socks on.  You were such a fun little girl to read to.  You memorized the books we had and it was a big part of our day to read with each other.  *where is the bear when the wind blows cold?*.    You have always been interested in the *family tree*, dates, p
